We thrive in a completely remote work environment -- with no central office -- where people learn and grow with the company. We are collaborative, creative, and innovative, with each person expected to contribute to meaningful outcomes.

Successful applicants will be asked to show proof that they can legally work in the US. Though we are remote, applicants closer to our teams in Fort Worth, Texas will be shown preference.

      Things you'll be doing:

      • Experience with React, Angular, or equivalent frameworks
      • Familiarity with non-structured persistent document data stores (NoSQL)

    • Do you want to be part of a team that helps over one million designers create amazing products every day? We're looking for a full-time Site Reliability Engineer to join us at Sketch.

We are building a cloud platform that helps teams to collaborate on Sketch designs in every possible, efficient, and beautiful way.
Your mission will be to shape this cloud infrastructure defining and building every piece, from development environments to metrics processing and observability, including security policies, network design, deployment strategies, high availability, etc...

Our stack is currently based on a mix of serverless and traditional server applications. You will propose new projects to make sure this platform has the best technology for our product goals and our team. You are proactive and have a "get the job done" attitude. You are also not afraid of getting deeper and deeper in order to debug a problem, especially in production.

There are always many things to do at Sketch. You need to be an organized and communicative person. You are used to prioritizing Infrastructure tasks and projects and you like to back your decisions and proposals with arguments. As a part of a team with very skilled people being an excellent team player is essential.

      As a remote organization
There are three keys to us. It requires excellent communication skills as well as good written and spoken English. You need to be self-motivated and be comfortable working in a remote position. And also it requires high-quality documentation. You to have an eye for detail, in general, and especially for the documentation.

      We believe in
Automated, simple, and quality tested infrastructures. It's essential that you have experience developing infrastructures as code and you enjoy coding. You are very critic with your own job and you always try to find the cleanest way to do it. You understand well the right balance between adopting new technology, current stability, maintainability, and simplicity. Like us, you also believe that speed and reliability are two of the most important web platforms features. You like to design and build processes and platforms that run flawlessly and fast.

      The ideal candidate
      • Has experience with different stacks (mainly Linux based), technologies and production models and has participated actively on the build of important pieces of a cloud platform.
      • We would like to know as much about you as possible. Contact us and tell us about your experience and your motivations for this job and send us any link of something that represents you or your experience.
Even if you feel you are not 100% exactly the person described, we would still love to hear from you. We value anything that makes you different from the description.
Even if you're not able to tick all of these boxes, we would still love to hear from you.
    • Do you love building products from a "behind the scenes" perspective? We're looking to expand our team with a full-time Backend Developer.

As a backend developer, you'll have the ability to work on large-scale systems that impacts people's day-to-day work.
Your job will be mainly focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining APIs. To us developing new features and debugging and fixing bugs are equally important, so every developer in our team participates in both types of jobs. You will work closely with frontend and Mac developers to guarantee maximum alignment for our products and smooth engineering processes.

Our backend is mostly built on Elixir, although we have some bits in NodeJS and Go. Our Elixir API implements GraphQL and we use MariaDB as our primary data store. Our backend also integrates with other minor services like Redis or SQS.

It's essential that you have broad experience developing with Elixir or other languages that may be considered similar to it like Ruby, Clojure, etc..

We don't expect you to have experience with all the technologies in our stack, but you are, definitely, not afraid of them. You are an experienced software engineer, and you have been part of medium/large web development teams. You care much for the details regarding security, code quality, scalability, performance, and simplicity. Above all, you seek operational excellence and push to apply the best engineering practices possible. Not everything that you or your team do can be perfect, but, at least, you make sure that you always know the trade-offs.

We back our decisions with arguments. You don't care for hype and always try to find the best solution and technology for the job and its context.

We value every year of experience in your field, but experience isn't the be-all and end-all. The ideal candidate has the passion and knowledge to build high-quality software. We'd love for you to learn from us, just like we'd love to be able to learn from you.

Our team works remotely and communicates mostly using text, so you need to have excellent communication skills and written English, be self-motivated, and comfortable working in a remote position.

      Essentials
      • Passionate about the web, product design, and problem-solving.
      • Able to work as part of a close-knit team. Together with your colleagues, you will code, review Pull Requests, deploy to production, etc.. Also, as part of a distributed team, you believe in maintaining detailed documentation.
      • Ability to write and maintain high-quality and well-tested code.
      • At minimum 4 hours of overlap with European/African timezones.
      • Experience with building web APIs.
      • We expect you to be able to start coding in Elixir since the beginning, so, at least, you must be already familiarized with the language, debugging tools, and good practices.
      • Experience with SQL and ORMs. We expect from you to debug queries, suggest database optimizations and work with data migrations in the most optimum way.
      • Knowledge of GraphQL. You understand, at least, its pros and cons depending on the context.

      Bonus points
      • Experience or history of working as part of a large remote team or organization.
      • Experience in creating or contributing to open source projects.
      • Experience, not only building Elixir services but also working with BEAM regarding error-debugging and optimizations proposals.
      • Experience in working with Amazon Web Services.
      • Experience integrating web applications with external payment systems.
Even if you're not able to tick all of these boxes, we would still love to hear from you.

Do you love building products from a "behind the scenes" perspective? We're looking to expand our team with a full-time, experienced Elixir Engineer.

As a backend engineer at Sketch, you'll have the ability to work on large-scale systems that impacts people's day-to-day work. You will work closely with frontend and Mac developers and project managers to guarantee maximum alignment for our products and smooth engineering processes.

Sketch's web platform involves different backend services, and the stack is a mix of serverless and self-managed services. Your main mission will be to contribute to the Elixir backend, using the best practices and techniques of the language in order to take full advantage of Elixir and Erlang/OTP scalability and resiliency properties. This backend is built with the web framework Phoenix and implements a GraphQL API with Absinthe. The application data is persisted with a SQL database.

You will also help other junior Elixir developers to improve their technical skills through code reviews, peer-programming sessions, and other coaching practices.

Sketch is a 100% remote company, and your colleagues will be distributed around the globe. Being remote adds great flexibility to everyone's life and helps us, as a company, to have a more diverse team. Our team works remotely and communicates mostly using text. You need to have excellent communication skills and written English, be self-motivated, and comfortable working in a remote position.

You are a seasoned Software Engineer, passionate about the web, product design, and problem-solving. You have worked with different languages, and you understand well the advantages and trade-offs of different technologies for different needs. You have broad experience in building and maintaining large web applications. You know how to organize Elixir/Phoenix code for excellent maintainability and high development speed.

You have been working full-time with Elixir for more than four years and with Phoenix (also full-time) for more than two years. You don't just scratch the surface of Elixir. You master Erlang/BEAM/OTP debugging, and other types of low-level tasks. You understand well the implementation peculiarities of GraphQL, and its challenges regarding authorization, database performance, and caching.

You can work as part of a close-knit team. You have been part of medium/large web development teams. You seek knowledge sharing within your team. Together with your colleagues, you will code, review Pull Requests, deploy to production, etc.. Also, as part of a distributed team, you believe in maintaining detailed documentation.

You are a pragmatist and understand technology as the medium to build products. You understand the right balance between code readability, simplicity, development speed, and maintainability. Above all, you seek operational excellence and push to apply the best engineering practices possible. At Sketch, we back our decisions with arguments.

You will work very closely with the rest of the backend team. Most of your working hours must overlap with the rest of the backend team. This team is, mostly based on European/African timezones. So, probably, more than 5 or 6 hours of difference will be a problem.
Even if you're not able to tick all of these boxes, we would still love to hear from you.
  • Customer Support / Customer Success (2)

    • We are building a Customer Support team based on the idea of helping people with honesty. We believe in assisting customers efficiently and humbly, while helping the rest of our company to better understand our user base.
Your mission as a Customer Support Specialist will be test and reproduce customers' technical issues, and ultimately help find the solutions. It's not just about solving problems, though. This process also provides valuable insight into our design, development and QA teams.

For that reason, you'll have to be proactive but flexible, and empathic but candid. We truly believe in communicative people who can liaise with the rest of the company while providing honest and authoritative technical help to our customers. You'll have to show deep technical knowledge in macOS, Sketch and design, all shaped from a Customer Support perspective.

What does an average day as a Technical Support Specialist at Sketch look like?
We're a growing team with a simple approach to Customer Support that involves no escalations or tiers — so you'll have to be flexible and reliable.
A typical day begins with tackling any pending emails in your inbox and helping customers resolve their issues. You'll then need to respond to technical issues, prioritising different aspects that can vary depending on the context: if there's been a recent release, if there's a known bug which we already have the solution for, or if there's a specific request or need from inside the team that we should check out.
During your day, you'll be talking constantly with people inside the Customer Support team, and elsewhere within Sketch, to either get or give help.
Over time, we will use your feedback on this workflow to help us refine it and become even more effective at helping our customers.

What are you going to learn?
We provide a flexible and ever-changing environment that will shape you as a resourceful specialist, with deep knowledge in design concepts of UX/UI and bug tracking. You'll be in contact with different people of several countries around the world and you'll be part of a fast-growing company that you'll help to develop and improve.

      As a remote organization
We believe are three key attributes to working successfully within a remote organization. You'll need excellent communication skills, as well as good written and spoken English. You'll need to be self-motivated and be comfortable working in a remote position. And you'll need the ability to follow up on pending issues and parallel tasks closely and methodically.

      We believe in
Honest, authoritative and effective technical support. You'll have to show empathy to understand the customers' needs and experience in providing technical solutions for them. You'll have a natural willingness to help and you're able to apply your deep technical knowledge into an understandable and reachable solution. In addition, you'll be capable of deploying these skills with speed and reliability.

      The ideal candidate
      • Is familiar with Sketch and has experience providing complex technical support within macOS and design environments.
      • Has experience tracking bugs and working closely with other departments.
      • Has superb communication skills and a natural willingness to help people.
      • Is located in a timezone within the Americas, preferably around the Eastern Time Zone (EDT).
Even if you're not able to tick all of these boxes, we would still love to hear from you.

      • Deliver actionable and candid feedback from customers to our design and development teams so as to best facilitate ideas and drive innovation for future product enhancement and development
      • Reinforce communications relating to new features, specifically by demonstrating-on-demand if requested / when useful

      • Previous startup experience
      • A self-starter who can diagnose inefficiencies and optimize processes to maximize results.

Even if you're not able to tick all of these boxes, we would still love to hear from you.
  • Design (20)

    • Our mission

The problem: In 2017, nearly 60% of adults in sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

How we're solving it: We're building financial services to work as they should: no account fees, instantly available and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always function, we're creating financial infrastructure that "just works." In November 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments and we recently launched in Cote d'Ivoire. Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent. That's where you come in...

How you'll help us achieve it

We know design can help us make a great impression on potential users as well as hiring candidates. We recently worked with a design firm to develop a new brand which will launch next month. We're looking for someone to join our team to implement our new brand in all our materials (posters, signs, flyers, etc.), aiming at a press launch in Q2 2020, then move onto mobile app and web graphic design. You will report to the Head of Product.

      Responsibilities:

      • Understand and express our mission, values, strategy and users' needs through design.

      • Take ownership of a companywide brand design style guide of reusable components.

      • Produce sketches and comprehensive layouts of print, web page and mobile app design, gather feedback and iterate.

      • Finish designs for print and collateral.

      • Finish, slice, export and debug assets (images, stylesheets and android layouts) for use in website and mobile apps on different devices (an engineer will have some time to help with the process as needed).

      • Understand and apply web and Android platform design principles and best-practices.

      Requirements:

      • Have substantial experience in either print or application graphic design:

      • If print — heavily involved in print/collateral design at a tech company, and at least peripheral involvement in web or app design

      • If app — owned the visual design of an important feature on web or mobile

      • Have at least some experience in each of print design, web/app design, and technical design work (e.g. fixing layout bugs)

      Bonus points if:

      • Speak French

      • Experience with user experience design

      Key details

      • Location: We are a globally distributed remote company - work from wherever makes you happy!

      • This is a full-time position and includes equity.

      • Use whatever tools you prefer, but we currently have a bunch of stuff in Sketch.

      Major benefits:

      • Subsidized health insurance for you and your dependents and retirement contributions (both vary from country-to-country)

      • 26 weeks fully paid parental leave and subsidized fertility assistance

      • Unlimited vacation with a 20-day minimum requirement

      • $10,000 annual charitable donation matching

      Our team

      • We're a team of ~130 people (90 Senegalese and 40 International) who are deeply passionate about our mission of bringing great financial services to the people who need them most. Our team works remotely across North America, Europe and Africa.

      • Every nine weeks our HQ team goes on a five-day retreat together in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa.

      • We’re backed by world-class investors including Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, and the cofounders of PayPal.

      How to apply

If interested, please apply here with your CV and portfolio. The portfolio would ideally showcase:

      • A variety of product-oriented print, web and/or mobile app designs

      • A strong visual aesthetic and understanding of color, typography, iconography and branding

      • Practical skills with modern design software tools

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
