      What You Will Do

      • Scale up the platform and integrations between machine learning algorithms and the pipeline

      What is a unit?

      • Units are our means to scale and focus eyeo. They provide a framework for aligning teams towards a shared goal.

      • The unit is comprised of approx. 25 people:

      • Approximately half will report indirectly to you (they will be managed by Section Leads—your right-hand people)

      • Approximately a quarter (such as section leads, data scientists, machine learning experts and QA engineers) will report directly to you

      The unit is made up of teams covering these topics:

      • Desktop browser extension core development

      • Android SDK development

      • iOS SDK development

      • Ad-blocking quality

      • Industry relations

      • Within our teams, we have cross-functional groups of peers working together to build our products.

      How you can help us (with people)

      • Create the unit’s strategy, goals and initiatives, along with the teams

      • Ensure the unit has clear KPIs

      • Report KPIs regularly, and continuously work to improve them

      • Ensure the flow of information with product owners in order for them to be able to prioritize and maintain their backlogs autonomously, and to make the best product-related decisions

      • Align across the company and with other units on strategic and tactical topics

      • Continuously support the unit with goal alignment, proper tooling, facilitation and community-ship

      We are looking for a Python-focused software engineer to build and enhance our existing APIs and integrations with the Scientific Python ecosystem. TileDB’s Python API (https://github.com/TileDB-Inc/TileDB-Py) wraps the TileDB core C API, and integrates closely with NumPy to provide zero-copy data access. You will build and enhance the Python API through interfacing with the core library; build new integrations with data science, scientific, and machine learning libraries; and engage with the community and customers to create value through the use of TileDB.

      Location

      Our headquarters are in Cambridge, MA, USA and we have a subsidiary in Athens, Greece. However, you will have the flexibility to work remotely as long as your residence is in the USA or Greece. US candidates must be US citizens, whereas Greek candidates must be Greek or EU citizens.

      Expectations

      In your first 30 days, you will familiarize yourself with TileDB, the TileDB-Py API and the TileDB-Dask integration. After 30 days, you will be fully integrated in our team.       Responsibilities

      - You will be responsible for creating and maintaining company KPI dashboards so everyone across the company can monitor our performance (we are transparent and data-driven), and team leads can make informed decisions. This means writing a LOT of SQL -- and making sure the data is accurate and reliable.

      - Then, you will explain those metrics to leadership and each team, making sure they understand the ins-and-outs of the data. As a data analyst, you know that there are caveats behind every single chart; it’s your job to make sure that your audience understands it too when they make business-critical decisions. This may come in 1:1 meetings, team meetings, or deep dive sessions.

      • As a Data Scientist, your responsibilities include:


        • Design, implement, and train algorithms and models that improve and streamline business processes

    • As a data scientist you will push the boundaries of deep learning & NLP by conducting research in cutting-edge AI and apply that research to production scale data. Our data includes a large corpora of global patents in multiple languages and a wealth of metadata. The focus of your work will be to analyze, visualize, and interpret large text corpora as well as more traditional structured data. This includes recommending and implementing ML-based product features. We also expect to publish primary research and contribute to FOSS that we use.

      What you'll do day in day out:

      • Work with the data science and engineering teams in translating complex models and algorithms into production-grade software systems.

      • Develop components that will analyse, process and react to operational feeds in near real-time, optimizing driver allocation, service pricing and preventing fraudulent use of our services in near real-time.

      • Being agile both within and across teams, bridging software engineering and data science.

      What you need to have:

      • At least one Master's degree in Math, Physics, Computer Science or Engineering. Higher degrees are a significant bonus as is considerable experience with Big Data Analytics and Statistical Analysis in the industry.

      • At least 5 years of experience in developing production-grade software using either Data Warehousing or Big Data frameworks in order to solve real-world problems.

      • Experience in developing with Scala at an idiomatic, expert level is required. Knowledge of advanced Java or C++ is a bonus. We would favour candidates with an exceptionally strong engineering background.

      • At least 6 years of hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.

      • Proven hands-on experience with Apache Hadoop, Kafka, Spark or Flink.

      • Exposure to designing streaming and batch data pipelines.

      • Applied knowledge in Machine Learning algorithms and their application to vast datasets is considered as a plus.

      • A strong sense of ownership in your work.

      • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with an excellent eye for detail working with qualitative and quantitative data.
