• This Product Designer or Senior Product Designer position for our Compliance group is 100% remote.

A brief overview:

GitLab is building an open-source, single application for the entire software development lifecycle—from project planning and source code management to CI/CD, monitoring, and security.

We started 2019 with a team of 15 Product Designers and Researchers. Right now, we’re in a period of growth, we’ve more than doubled the size of the Product Design team, and we’ve increased the number of GitLab employees from 400 to over 1100 this financial year, too.

At GitLab, we live and breathe open source principles. This means our entire handbook is online, and with a few clicks, you can find the details of future releases, check out our past releases, and see an overview of the product vision you’d contribute to when working here.

As a Product Designer at GitLab, you will be embedded in our Compliance group. It’s a complex area where you’ll be tasked with improving the controls we provide to support our customers to help them manage their compliance posture within GitLab. You'll be designing new features and experiences to improve the quality of life for customers who operate within regulated environments.

What you can expect in a Product Designer, Compliance role at GitLab:
• You’ll be tasked with bettering our product for users who rely on our compliance features. The work you’ll do will enable greater adoption of our product within the enterprise space and impact users across a range of industries, from healthcare to manufacturing.
• You’ll collaborate with a Product Manager to define the priorities, roadmap, and overall strategy for the future of Compliance within our product.
• You'll work alongside Product Managers and UX Researchers to understand the needs of our users to shape how compliance features underpin the work within regulated industries.
• You’ll come together with our Technical Writers to better our compliance documentation and in-product content.
• You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to uncover and understand the complexities and limitations of our current compliance tools, advocating for the end-user in all areas, including documentation, ease of use, and visualization of key messaging.
• You’ll utilize wireframes, prototypes, user flows, mockups, high-fidelity visual designs, or any other artifacts you believe are necessary to convey your design thinking and ideas.
• You’ll engage with our user base and the wider GitLab community to understand their pain points and work toward long-term fixes that enable them to succeed with their goals.
• You’ll undertake usability testing to validate your thinking, collaborate with our UX Researchers on generative research, and you’ll share findings with the wider team in our research repo, ensuring recommendations are communicated effectively across our organization.
• You’ll contribute compliance patterns to our Design System, alongside the rest of the UX department, and the GitLab community as a whole.
Projects you might work on in our Compliance group:

You’ll spend your time at GitLab collaborating with a cross-functional team. You may work on features that bring compliance checks into merge requests, a dashboard to give users insight into their overall compliance controls, or even build features that enable code to be audited, traceable, and reported on. To be successful, you’ll consider many edge cases while understanding the needs of a wide range of personas across a breadth of industries. Outside of work on our compliance tools, you’ll also contribute to our Pajamas design system and design culture here at GitLab.

You should apply if:
• You’ve got experience designing developer tooling, enterprise software, or complex web applications that are built for technical users.
• You’ve got some experience designing compliance experiences, or knowledge of the compliance industry.
• You’ve got experience working on product strategy and product design for a complex enterprise application or SaaS tool.
• You enjoy getting involved in research and usability testing, and you continually look to improve your user research abilities.
• You want to design for a complex product with technical users who have continually evolving needs.
• You’ve got experience applying your product design skills across user research, UX strategy, wireframing, prototyping, product strategy, and visual design, within a complex domain.
• The idea of playing a key part in the evolution of our Pajamas Design System is truly exciting to you.
• You understand frontend code or the limitations of frontend technology. You can demonstrate this through your hands-on coding skills with HTML/CSS/JS, your knowledge of Git, or by showing us you have a deep understanding of the needs of engineers you’ve worked with previously.
• Our values of collaboration, results, efficiency, diversity, iteration, and transparency resonate with you.
• You'll thrive in an environment where self-learning and self-service is encouraged and instilled as a part of our culture.

The culture here at GitLab is something we’re incredibly proud of. Because GitLabbers are currently located in over 60 different countries, you’ll spend your time collaborating with kind, talented, and motivated colleagues from across the globe.

Some of the benefits you’ll be entitled to vary by the region or country you’re in. However, all GitLabbers are fully remote and receive a "no ask, must tell" paid-time-off policy, where we don’t count the number of days you take off annually. You can work incredibly flexible hours, enabled by our asynchronous approach to communication. We’ll also help you set up your home office environment, pay for your membership to a co-working space and contribute to the travel costs associated with meeting other GitLab team members across the world. Also, every year or so, we’ll invite you to our Contribute event.

When someone installs Density in a location, they get access to real time, accurate people count. The experience is magical to a customer, but the process involved in accomplishing it is complex. Density has counted 13 million humans, and that number is growing exponentially. We are seeking a talented backend engineer to help architect a suite of web-based products to transform that data into insight.

The software systems that support Density are foundational: our customer facing APIs and applications, the systems that manage and orchestrate our fleet of devices, and the internal tools that keep our organization running smoothly. We put a high value on the infrastructure that supports our systems, and love approaching problems through research, prototyping, and experimentation. We are not afraid to embrace new technologies, but are mindful in what we choose.

As an organization, we understand the importance of design, focusing on fundamental problems, and decentralizing decision making. As an engineering team, we design, build, and test with simplicity and scalability in mind. As individuals, we take ownership in our work and decisions. We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of the web who shares these ideals.

This position reports to Density's Director of Software Engineering.

What you'll work on

• Lead backend development on internal and customer facing projects, utilizing Python and Django
• Build APIs and data delivery mechanisms for applications such as web dashboards, alerting & health systems, mobile applications, and third party integrations
• Monitor, understand inefficiencies, and improve the data pipeline
• React to customer needs and feedback through tight-looped, iterative development
• Contribute to open source initiatives
• Document and teach best practices across our stack

What we're looking for

• 5+ years industry experience building and scaling web applications and APIs
• Deep experience with Python and Django
• Experience building data-centric applications, including analytics pipelines, report generation systems, and alerting & health systems
• An understanding and appreciation for application performance monitoring and profiling tools
• A desire to define, document, and teach web engineering standards
• Strong writing skills, with experience crafting clear and concise documentation
• A motivation for constant learning

Icing on the cake

• Experience with statistical analysis and trend data modeling
• Experience with building applications using ES6, React, and Redux
• A deep appreciation for design
• A strange obsession with counting people (or what you can do with the resultant data)

While we have offices in Syracuse (NY), San Francisco, and NYC, we embrace and have built a culture around remote work.

• "The front page of the internet,” brings over 430 million (30% YoY growth) people together each month through their common interests, inviting them to share, vote, comment, and create across thousands of communities. Come for the cats, stay for the empathy.

You’ll be joining Reddit’s Ad Creation and Experience team, where were you’ll build user-facing products to enhance Reddit’s ads experience. Mobile makes up more than half of Reddit’s traffic, and as a member of our team, you’ll play a key role in defining the future of Reddit’s Android app monetization. You’ll also be empowered to improve the infrastructure of the Android app as a whole; for example, our team was responsible for modularizing Reddit’s Android app.

Responsibilities:

• Driving new features from end-to-end through prototyping, validation, implementation, launch, and continuous iteration

• Collaborating with designers and PM, building prototypes, collecting user feedback, and iterating on new ideas

• Improving the performance and stability of our most critical features

• Building the technical foundation for future mobile products

• Designing and running experiments to increase revenue and improve user experience

Qualifications:

• Expertise in Java with 4+ years of experience in Android development

• Sound software engineering fundamentals

• Embracing the challenges of building data intensive, highly responsive, and fault tolerant apps in the constrained environment of a smartphone

• Willingness to buck trends and learn new ways to build software

• Passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that improves people’s lives globally

Why SecurityScorecard

SecurityScorecard's SaaS based platform enables enterprises to instantly rate and understand the security risk of companies, non-intrusively and from an outside-in perspective. We use an A-F rating scale. Companies with a C, D or F rating are 5 times more likely to be breached or face compliance penalties than companies with an A or B rating. Our platform is used by nearly 1,000 customers for use-cases including self monitoring, vendor risk management, cyber insurance, board reporting, and M&A.

Headquartered in New York City, we are funded by top investors such as Sequoia Capital, Google Ventures, NGP, Moody’s, Intel, and others. Our vision is to create a new language for companies and their partners to communicate, understand, and improve each other’s security posture.

About the Role:

We seek a UX Designer to work on our fastest growing platform tier today, known as Atlas. Atlas is our collaborative security product that streamlines the process of managing and executing cybersecurity assessments and ultimately turbocharges the due diligence process.

Key Responsibilities:

• Iterative prototyping and refining designs from low-fi wireframes to beautiful mocks
• Employ user-centered design methods to develop user interface specifications such as interaction models and workflows
• Create wireframe layouts for pages that present content and functionality with intuitive clarity and beautiful balance
• Lead the campaign production process — seeing the idea through the creative process to final sign off and implementation
• Work closely with our product managers, designers and engineers to define the best way to approach a problem
• Brainstorm and visualize design concepts

Experience and Skills:

• 3-6 years of experience designing end-to-end user workflows in B2B SaaS
• Ability to adapt to different delivery timeframes & information availability
• Strong communication skills with engineering team
• Ability to create phases for their designs
• Take feedback from users and abstract concept, not limited to the solutions proposed
• Create compelling stories to convince Devs and Project to work on solutions

SecurityScorecard embraces diversity. We believe that our team is strengthened through hiring and retaining employees with diverse backgrounds, skillsets, ideas, and perspectives. We make hiring decisions based upon merit and do not discriminate based on race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, veteran, or disability status.

• We're looking for a Design Lead to help us help our clients build incredible teams all over the world.

Organisations need to find the right people to solve the challenges they're addressing. People need to find the right organisations where they'll thrive in their career. We unite these two parties - leveraging design, software and data to facilitate the interactions that address everyone's needs.

We're a 'design-led' organisation. We believe most B2B software is (still!) designed for the buyer, not the user - fundamentally, most people just don't engage with B2B software. We're different - investing heavily in design and customer success and going 'above and beyond' to educate, guide and empower our clients. We've recently invested a considerable sum into a re-brand with Focus Lab and are looking for someone to build on top of that foundation, ensuring we win on design for years to come.

You'll work across our entire 'design ecosystem' - whilst you'll focus on our core product experience, you'll also contribute to our internal tools and all other aspects of the Pinpoint experience, from our clients to our colleagues. You can expect to have a say in all design decisions from new ideas through to iterations of existing functionality and should be just as comfortable reviewing engagement data and talking to end-users as you are in Sketch.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day, you'll:

• Work with our product team, reviewing engagement, usage and support data and talking to customers to identify issues / opportunities and then design workflows, mockups and visual solutions to address them.

• Identify and define new features / concepts and design the end-to-end workflows, mockups and visual solutions required to get those features built and implemented.

• Take ownership of our design system, expanding our visual language over time, refining existing components and ensuring we adhere to the system as a business.

• Constantly iterate and improve on our existing work based on feedback from the wider team, end users, your own experience, etc.

• Contribute to the non-technical aspects of our business - from our marketing content to the office, we want every aspect of the Pinpoint experience to feel 'designed' and not an afterthought - this is as true for our employee experience as it is for our clients.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Ideally, you'll:

• Have prior experience designing digital products (with examples of work you've contributed to in the past).

• Have an understanding of the entire design process, from identifying the problem through to the design and execution of a solution.

• Be comfortable designing mockups / prototypes in a tool of your choice. (We use Sketch, but you can use whatever you'd like).

• Have a passion for the Software as a Service (SaaS) space and be interested in our industry. There are fantastic designers in every sector, but we'd love you to love this one.

• Take pride in the 'why' behind your designs. You'll be happy explaining your decision making process and rationale to others.

• Enjoy learning. We move fast and have big ambitions - the only way we'll achieve them is if the growth trajectory of our people is as fast as the growth trajectory of our business. You'll constantly strive to improve as a designer and will constantly push standards.

Benefits

We care deeply about making Pinpoint an incredible place to work and invest a significant amount of time and energy into creating and maintaining a company culture that provides our team with a generous level of support whilst inspiring them to do their best work.

The specific benefits / perks we offer are continually evolving, but currently include:

• Full healthcare coverage for you and your family

• Generous personal development budget

• Top of the line equipment (4K Monitors, Macbook Pro, etc.)

• Flexible working (choose your hours / days / where you work, within reason)

• Competitive salary with regular pay reviews

• Generous option grants

About Pinpoint

Pinpoint empowers organizations to build the incredible teams they need to achieve their goals.

Our online software helps businesses find, assess and hire the best candidates using our suite of intuitive tools.

We strive to be best in class by empowering our people to challenge, innovate and advance in everything we do.

Be a part of an organization that deploys the best working methods used by the world’s leading brands and creates an environment that allows you to get on and accomplish your mission.

Do your best work with the tools you need, with support from the best people, in your own time, your way. We succeed together by operating with flexibility, always learning and ever-evolving.

Want to make building for the web radically simpler? We’d love your help.

About Gatsby

The web is a critical resource for all of humanity in the 21st century. Gatsby makes creating for the web dramatically better by making creating novel experiences easier -- shortening the time to try experiments, collaborate around changes, and to deploy incremental improvements. Gatsby has quickly grown to be one of the biggest and most exciting open source projects on the web, with almost 100,000 developers using Gatsby every month.

As a remote-first, community-focused team, Gatsby’s core values include transparency (we work in public most of the time); creating a safe, high-trust team; building incredible developer experiences; maintaining a healthy working environment; and helping deliver web experiences that feel amazing to use on every device and connection type.

Details of this role:
• Type of work: Full time
• Location: Remote (preference for UTC-8 to UTC+0)
Why we’re hiring

Site builders have become incredibly popular in the last five years for good reasons. They make it easy for anyone (not just developers) to build and run compelling websites. That’s amazing….until it’s not, and you need something custom that the tool didn’t account for.

We don’t think the first generation of page builders are the right solution for most organizations. Companies need #nocode that’s modular, not monolithic. We’ve been building a lot of the pieces of this -- a visual editor, consistent, application-wide theming, composable, reusable website pieces, and 450+ integrations

But building the pieces isn’t enough. In the shift from monolithic to modular, we need to be defining the interfaces between Gatsby and the content mesh (search, analytics, forms, functions, authentication, payments, etc). And then we need to be creating a seamless, integrated experience that pulls all of the pieces together. Think: Dell assembling modular pieces (graphics/video cards, motherboards, hard drives, other peripherals) into a seamless, unified whole.

And that’s where you come in :)

What you’ll do on a day-to-day basis:
• Systematically reduce friction to craft the optimal day one experience for non-technical users. Taking our basic visual editor (Blocks) and making it industrial-strength, best-in-class experience will require heads-up observation of developer workflows and methodical analysis in order to bring them into the tool.
• Co-conspire with a pioneering group of engineers. The Themes team (John Otander, Brent Jackson, Max Stoiber, Rikki Schulte) have been thinking about design tooling for the last several years and have built out a number of prototypes. Your job won’t be to tell them what to do -- it will be to co-conspire with them to create the future together.
• Work together with design on user research: prototyping, user testing, etc. One of the ways you’ll be able to help is rigorous user testing across different user groups. What features do different types of marketers want? Content folks? Designers?
• Apply paradigms from other development frameworks. Visual editors have been popularized in mobile development (Xamarin), game development (Unity), etc. We need to learn and apply best practices from these worlds to the web.
• Careful interface and API design. With relevant engineering counterparts, you’ll work through the appropriate interfaces between Gatsby and the content mesh -- search, analytics, forms, etc -- in order to simplify user workflows.
• Collaborate across the content mesh community. Integrations have lots of stakeholders! We want to carefully consider the needs and desires of the community and partners across the content mesh in order to build an interface that works well with the vast diversity of services on the web.
Experience & Qualities

You’ll need to hit the ground running, which means experience getting your head around these aspects as quickly as possible.

• Launched products successfully in a startup. We’re iterating rapidly on a number of fronts, and tend to optimize for quickly getting product in the hands of users (and receiving feedback) over Platonic feature-completeness. Whether you’ve been a product manager, or a founder, you have experience putting all the puzzle pieces together.
• Comfortable inventing the future. The future never repeats but it does rhyme. You need to be comfortable trusting your intuition in a domain where there’s aren’t established comparables for the work you’re doing.
• Know how to build for developers. Whether you’re actually coming from a developer background, you know how to think about developer experience, API design, and so on
• Great judgment. You will need to consistently manage tradeoffs and evaluate new ideas. These decisions often have a vast impact. As Amazon puts it, “leaders are right. A lot.”
• Write, speak, and think clearly. Gatsby is a distributed company and relies heavily on crisp and thorough writing. Your ability to get the right feedback and align the company will rely heavily on thoughtful synthesis of internal and external conversations, strategic planning in product documents, and clear communication to all stakeholders.
• Leverage metrics to focus on value. You have experience using data and metrics to back up, or question assumptions. You leverage your strong analytical skills and ability to dive deep to develop a nuanced understanding of your product and customers.
• High level of curiosity. The web is an incredibly diverse place with a huge number of different communities. You’re fascinated to learn about the challenges, workflows, and hopes and dreams of a wide variety of people.
• Trustworthiness. A great product manager is trusted deeply by the engineering team. Tech leads and engineering ICs feel comfortable DM-ing their product manager at any time when they run across product questions in their day-to-day work, because they can count on getting accurate, thoughtful, helpful context.
The best parts of this job
• Your role will be key in making Gatsby the next way to build on the web—and a technology that enables the next billion internet users. ‘Nuff said.
• You’ll have an opportunity to play a huge leadership role in a high-profile, growing company. Next to the CEO, this is perhaps the most cross-functional role in the entire Gatsby organization. You’ll have the chance to influence the work of almost everyone in the company.
• You get to interact with an active, open, friendly community of developers that are really excited about building high-performance, fun-to-use websites. Their energy is often infectious, and you will leave conversations with them even more excited about Gatsby.
The worst parts of this job
• Dealing with the complexity of the web. The web is an incredibly diverse place, which means we’re going to be getting a ton of signal from different groups of people, likely pulling us in different directions. You’ll need to be able to thoughtfully manage the complexity and point the way forward.
• You will need to ruthlessly prioritize your workflow. Because our user audience is so diverse, there’s a huge amount of potential things to do at any time. You’ll need to be comfortable with thoughtfully choosing where to focus and communicating that.
• Stakeholders are dispersed far and wide. The largest clustering of people in one place is 5 folks in our Berkeley office. We have a strong sense of identity and are very close, but if in-person interactions with a large number of people is important to you then this may not be a good fit.
Benefits
• Unlimited vacation policy, with a minimum of 15 days paid vacation time
• Skip the commute with remote work
• Stock options in a fast-growing startup
• Amazing health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family (US only)
• 3 months of paid parental leave covering both adoption and foster placement
• Fly to cool locations 3x/year for company-wide meetups
• Gatsby Sabbatical: 4 weeks paid vacation after 4 years tenure
Equal Opportunity

Gatsby is an equal opportunity employer. We eagerly seek applicants of diverse backgrounds and hire without regard to race, color, gender identity, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, physical abilities (or disability), age, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Cultivating inclusivity and diversity is a top priority.

Headhunters and recruitment agencies may not submit resumes/CVs through this website or directly to managers. Gatsby does not accept unsolicited headhunter and agency resumes, and will not pay fees to any third-party agency or company that does not have a signed agreement with Gatsby.
