      About Us

At Close, we're building the sales communication platform of the future. With our roots as the very first sales CRM to include built-in calling, we're leading the industry toward eliminating manual processes and helping companies to close more deals (faster). Since our founding in 2013, we've grown to become a profitable, 100% globally distributed team of 43 high-performing, happy people that are dedicated to building a product our customers love.

Our backend tech stack currently consists of Python Flask/Gunicorn web apps with our TaskTiger scheduler handling many of the backend asynchronous task processing. Our data stores include MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis. The underlying infrastructure runs on AWS using a combination of managed services like RDS and ElasticCache and non-managed services running on EC2 instances. All of our compute runs through CI/CD pipelines that build Docker images, run automated tests and deploy to our Kubernetes clusters. Our backend primarily serves a well-documented public API that our front-end JavaScript app consumes.

We ❤️open source – using dozens of open source projects with contributions to many of them, and released some of our own like ciso8601, LimitLion, SocketShark, TaskTiger, and more at https://github.com/closeio

You have experience participating in code reviews and providing overall code quality suggestions to help maintain the structure and quality of the codebase.

You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a small and talented team where you're supported in your efforts to grow professionally. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively and collaborate in a fully distributed team.

You are located in an American or European time zone.

      Bonus points if you have...

      • Contributed open source code related to our tech stack

We’re looking for someone to join our Platform Engineering team at Ferrum. Are you interested in building services to help hospitals detect and eliminate the millions of medical errors that occur every year? If so, read on.

      About You

You have experience solving challenges with microservices and scaling systems securely. You are comfortable building robust applications with Go or similar languages, Docker, PostgreSQL, Linux, and more in complex systems. Your significant experience interacting with and developing APIs provides a framework for creating both internal and external facing endpoints.

You love efficiency and automation. Your work at Ferrum will have a huge impact on the business. You understand that automation and infrastructure pays dividends. You take pride in creating tools to help the team perform at a high level and scale to new challenges.

You communicate and document everything. At Ferrum, we are a distributed remote team. A culture of sharing and documentation allows everyone to seamlessly work together. Further, for FDA and other healthcare regulatory approvals our documentation of development, testing, and validation must be airtight.

You take ownership of a project from ideation to delivery and maintenance. Your experience provides a framework for you to work independently on multiple initiatives as both the end-to-end owner and as a contributor to features. You take pride in creating services that are easy to debug and maintain.

You want to make a positive and lasting impact on the world. You understand that technology has the power to improve people’s lives and enrich our society. You see the inequality in your own community and around the world and you look to change it.

      What You Will Do

      • Scale up the platform and integrations between machine learning algorithms and the pipeline

      • Design and build the APIs interfacing the data pipeline and machine learning services

      • Building security tools to protect sensitive patient data throughout the data pipeline

      • Optimize bare-metal appliances to meet the high performance needs of the application

      • Provision infrastructure for the secure services coordinating on-premise and cloud-hosted services

      About Ferrum

Medical errors kill 6 million patients every year and are the third leading cause of death worldwide. Ferrum provides doctors with an automated quality management system and machine learning marketplace that ensures they catch and fix medical errors before they affect patient care. The service does not affect physician workflow, takes less than a day to install, and is delivered via a secure appliance so patient data never leaves the hospital. Ferrum has been deployed at hospitals in multiple countries around the world. We are a highly technical team led by experienced founders who have built, funded, and scaled successful healthcare technology companies previously.

      Salary: $95,000

Are you looking for a new adventure with a positive impact?

At Learnlife we are on the mission to build an open ecosystem for a new lifelong learning paradigm to positively change education worldwide. We empower learners, educators, schools, and governments through a new learner-centered paradigm that focuses on purpose-inspired and personal learning.

      A little bit about us

Learnlife is based in Barcelona, where we also have opened our first Learning HUB (1200m2 @ Enrique Granados 7). We are an educational startup in the early phase with a team of thirty people in total and with six people working full-time on the digital part of the ecosystem we are building.

Last year, we had our first seed investment round, which we secured during the June 2019 when we raised €3,1m in partnership with 19 entrepreneurial supporters from 11 countries. The funding round was led by BPO Capital, a vehicle of Benjamin Otto (Germany), an active shareholder of the Otto Group and co-founder of About You.

We believe in empowered and autonomous teams, positive relationships, empathetic collaboration, growth through adventure, fair communities, and a culture of constructive transparency and honesty.

      Who we are looking for

We’re looking for a senior software engineer to join our growing team. As someone coming into such a pivotal role in the company, you will influence how our products look, work, behave and feel over the coming years.

You should send us an application if you:

      • Are searching for a startup-like environment with solid funding.

      • Have experience working on remote and in the ideal case also in the startup environment.

      • Are looking for a full-stack senior software engineering role, and you’ve spent in the role already several years.

      • Have strong skills in Javascript and another backend programming language (Ruby & Ruby on Rails is a big plus).

      • Are able to step outside your role description and do what is needed in order to help the team succeed.

      • Love technology and are hungry to learn.

      • Love to collaborate in a cross-functional team.

      • Are a great communicator (English).

      • Could solve problems independently.

      • Are based in Europe or Brazil.

      • Having an active profile on Github with several open-source contributions under your belt isn’t required, but it is a big plus.

      Our tech stack:

      • Ruby on Rails, Javascript

      • PostgreSQL, MongoDB

      • Nginx, Unicorn, AWS

How will your working day look like

You will start your day when you want in the morning and decide for yourself where you’re going to work. The whole team usually work remotely, but there are certain periods when we gladly go to our office in Ostrava, Czech Republic or Barcelona, Spain.

First thing in the morning, we have an asynchronous stand-up via Basecamp.

We usually summarize the previous day’s issues as well as tasks for the current day at the stand-up.

Everyone then works on their assignments during the day, and any other potential communication is carried on via Basecamp/Github/Calls. Nobody checks anybody as for when and how they work – only the results are important.

During the day and at the end of it, we commit the work in a standard way to Github where another developer always performs code review for you after you have completed a task.

Currently, we have 4-weeks long development cycles. The first week of the cycle is from a big part focused on planning and is, therefore, more meeting heavy than other weeks.

    • We need extraordinary support engineers  to join our team.

You should be comfortable with providing deep technical support and customer-facing interactions. • Didomi (didomi.io) helps companies get in compliance with data privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA. We build a consent management platform that consists of apps, web components, and APIs around collecting, sharing and managing user consents. We know privacy appears to be a boring and hard problem, but we strive to make it interesting and easy to solve for our clients.

We are looking for a senior software engineer with a focus on data engineering to join our team of 10+ people. While our main office is in Paris, we are a very distributed team and are open to people working remotely all around the world.

      What you will do

Leveraging your experience in building and maintaining complex data pipelines, you will drive the development of our analytics platform currently built on AWS Firehose, S3 and EMR / Python / Spark / PostgreSQL.

We are looking for someone who is eager to:

      - Collaborate with other developers to ship new features

      - Be in charge of the overall architecture of data pipelines

      - Ensure that we have the right tests and structure in place to make sure that we can move quickly without breaking everything

      - Share his/her knowledge of data engineering principles and best practices with the team

      - Keep learning new technologies and be on the look-out for new ideas that we should try out

      What we are looking for

      - A Spark expert

      - Experience with complex data pipelines in the Cloud

      - Quality-oriented mindset: testing, code reviews, code quality, etc.

      - Awareness of performance considerations

      - A passion for simple, maintainable and readable code that balances pragmatism and performance

How do we build our products?

We process millions of events every day and are building our analytics platform on Kinesis Firehose / S3 / EMR, with Python/Spark and PostgreSQL to provide an easy-to-use platform for querying and graphing events to everyone in the company and outside.

Most of our front-end applications rely on Angular 2+/Material/Redux. We love Angular but sometimes we need lightweight applications that can be embedded on thousands of websites so we also use Preact/Redux Zero for that.

We also build mobile SDKs for Android and iOS for our clients to embed in their apps.

Our back-end applications use Feathers JS, an amazing service-oriented Node.js framework for building REST and GraphQL APIs. We try to keep our services small and lean and use AWS Lambda/Serverless for background jobs. We leverage PostgreSQL and DynamoDB as our main databases.

We rely on a lot of AWS/GCP services (Beanstalk, Lambda, CloudWatch, S3, etc.) for building, deploying, serving, monitoring and scaling our services. We use Gitlab for our code and issues and our CI.

      Our vision as a team

We are building a product and engineering team that is strongly committed to a high level of quality in our products and code. We believe that automation is the key to consistently achieving that along with velocity of development and joy and pride in what we deliver.

We rely on automated tests of all sorts (unit, integration, linters, you-name-it!) and continuous integration/delivery to build flexible applications that are able to evolve without breaking. We trust that it enables engineers to focus on the quality of their code and iterate fast without fears of breaking stuff. And when we break stuff, we fix it and learn from our mistakes.

      Recruitment Process

Our interview process usually includes interviews with tech and non-tech people and a practical exercise/discussion like a code challenge, a code review or an architecture design. We understand you already have a job, obligations (and maybe a personal life!) so we'll work with you to make sure it doesn't take up too much of your time while still providing a good basis for a very concrete discussion.

We hope that you like what you are reading here. You are just one step away from getting started with us! Apply here and we'll be in touch within 24 hours.

    • Who We Are

Process Street is a SaaS platform that helps companies manage their processes and workflows to make recurring work fun, fast and faultless. We are a lean, flexible, 100% distributed team that relies on systems to improve output 10X. Process Street is a venture-backed startup and an AngelPad alum (the #1 Accelerator in the US).

A distributed team means freedom and flexibility: All 30-plus of us work wherever we’d like—reliable internet access is our only requirement. Spread across 9 time zones in 10 countries, we sign into Slack and open up our work tools on the schedule that fits our lives best. We communicate asynchronously, work autonomously, and take ownership of our work. Distributed work isn’t for everyone, but if it fits your management style, it’s a life-changing benefit.

Camaraderie from afar: Being 100% distributed doesn’t stop us from getting to know each other— we have daily conversations in chat, weekly “coffee” pairings with coworkers, and once a year we all come together for an all-team retreat.

Our values: As a small, nimble company, we want our employees to feel empowered to make decisions and define the future of our company, so our values include:

      • Act like an owner (Agency!)
      • Default to action (Processes are great; bureaucracy isn't!)
      • Focus on the process (See? Great.)
      • Practice prioritization (There are an infinite number of useful things to do. We trust you to pick the best ones.)
      • Pay attention to details (Our customers count on us!)
      • Over-communicate everything. Twice (See what we did there?)

      The Opportunity

We are looking for a Director of Engineering with experience building SaaS products to expand and lead our team of software engineers. Process Street is a small, fast-growing, and remote-first company, so you'll likely get to contribute to many different projects across the organization. Here are some of the things you'll do:

      • Develop effective ways to communicate, monitor, and lead your team through one-on-ones and team meetings.
      • Keep the executive leadership team informed on your team’s progress through one-on-ones, written updates, and regular team hangouts.
      • Build rapport with each member of the engineering team and support them through coaching and mentorship to help level up their skills.
      • Participate in code reviews, learning, and spreading technical knowledge throughout Process Street -- moving knowledge to documentation where appropriate.
      • Occasionally dive into the code - fixing bugs, improving the developer experience, smoothing edges -- sometimes even spiking out small proofs of concept.
      • Collaborate across various disciplines (Product Managers, Designers, Researchers) to help set technical roadmaps that will achieve business goals.
      • Actively recruit, onboard, and train new engineers at Process Street. This might involve tweaking the skills portions of interviews or writing better documentation.
      • Ensure customers have an amazing experience using Process Street.

      About You

You are an experienced engineer with a strong background working in our stack: React, ES6/TypeScript, Scala, Play 2 and PostgreSQL. Even if you aren't a daily coder, you regularly exercise your coding muscles to provide any technical context the team may need.

This isn't your first rodeo. You have hired, trained, and managed at least a few engineers before.

We value collaboration and investing in our people, so you are an effective team builder. You know how to hire, train, and develop engineers from all backgrounds. You understand the benefits of building a diverse and inclusive engineering team. You're adaptable and you know how to build, change, and adjust to the needs of a company as it grows.

You have strong communication skills and can partner with stakeholders across departments to balance engineering, product, and marketing/sales concerns. When possible, you find solutions that address both team and user needs, and when it’s not possible, you help build understanding and buy-in for difficult decisions.

You can keep track of, prioritize, and lead multiple projects at once. We're a small team, and there's no shortage of things you could be doing in a day. You'll carve out time for functional projects and make sure they solve real problems the team faces - ideally making future development even easier.

      What You'll Bring

      • 5+ years of software development experience
      • 2+ years people management experience related to engineering teams

      Diverse Teams Build Better Products

Most of your work is published as free software (Open edX is released under the AGPL license, which requires clients to release modifications under the same license), and you would also contribute to the free software project, pushing most of your developments upstream through pull requests, contributing features, documentation or help on mailing-lists.

We welcome applicants of all genders and ethnicities.

      Basic requirements

      - DevOps experience, especially on Debian/Ubuntu servers, Terraform, Vault, Packer, Prometheus, ELK, Docker. We are building a modern infrastructure and having a strong DevOps presence on top of core software engineering skills is a big plus with us.

We are a team of twenty developers, all working remotely from Europe, North & South America, Asia & Australia. You would arrive at a critical moment, as we scale up to handle increasing demand from clients on the edX platform. The company is not affiliated with edX, but contributing and working with them on various projects. • The data volume for our largest customers has increased more than 4x in the last year, and we’re scaling Heap to meet the demand. Our backend supports an expressive set of queries that need to come back with sub-second latencies and reflect up-to-the-minute data. To make this possible, we’re working on a novel distributed infrastructure.

We’re looking to bring on an Infrastructure Engineer to lead the DevOps side of this challenge. Help us de-risk our stack, add more 9s to our availability, and incorporate open source tooling.

You’ll own the design and development of our DevOps toolchain. You’ll build deploy pipelines and manage configurations. You’ll set up performance metrics and act on them to scale a complex distributed system.

We’re looking for stronger software engineering skills than a typical DevOps role requires. This is a building role, which happens to focus on stability, operability, and tooling, not an ops role. You’ll need to be able to understand our codebase and debug issues as they come up. Some example projects:
      • Determine how we'll do service discovery and incorporate it into a codebase that assumes static locations for services.
      • Figure out how we’ll package our code and deploy it from test → stage → production, and eventually eliminate manual deploys on production machines.
      • Where will new instances come from? Pre-baked AMIs? Terraform with vanilla images and a bunch of salt? Containers? Something else?
      • Determine how we’ll monitor, backup, and otherwise operate our Kafka cluster.
      • Much, much more.

We’d like to get to know you if:
      • You have experience with modern DevOps tooling - infrastructure as code, configuration management, CI pipelines, package managers - we need someone who has deep knowledge of the full DevOps ecosystem.
      • You communicate with clarity and precision. We care about this almost as much as your technical ability.
      • You’re self-directed with a strong sense for relative priority. There is low-hanging fruit everywhere. We need someone who has a good sense for which projects will have the most impact.
      • You have experience with AWS, especially EC2, VPC, and ELB.
      • (Bonus) You have experience with our stack. Heap runs on Kafka, ZooKeeper, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Node.js, with Terraform, SaltStack, and CircleCI for orchestration, configuration, and continuous integration.

Our HQ is in SF, and we have an office in New York, but a large part of our engineering team is remote. We cover relocation costs, and can sponsor visas. We'd love to hear from you, no matter where you are!

Heap has raised $95M in funding from NEA, Y Combinator, Menlo Ventures, SVAngel, Sam Altman, Garry Tan, Alexis Ohanian, Harj Taggar, Ram Shriram, and others.

People are what make Heap awesome. Regardless of age, education, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any personal characteristics, we want everyone to feel welcome. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive equal opportunity workplace everyone can call home.

      • System and network administration at all levels (from block-storage to container orchestration frameworks)

On being a product engineer at balena

All team members at balena are laser-focused on our mission: enabling developers to succeed in IoT and edge computing by helping them deploy and manage tens of thousands of devices across the globe.

As a product engineer, you will act as a product visionary and full-stack engineer at the same time — proactively identifying opportunities and seeing new features throughout the entire lifecycle from design to deployment and maintenance. You will own product outcomes, not feature requests, and take into careful consideration balena’s complex, interdependent systems when developing solutions. You will build a deep understanding of what the product is now and what it needs to be in the future, and help inform tradeoff and prioritization decisions. Above all, you will get your hands dirty and build cross-platform capabilities to remove friction for our users.

You will get inspiration both from the balena team and by actively communicating with users to understand how we can better address their needs, anticipate roadblocks and maximize the added value of a feature or solution for them. You will be empowered to take on a user request and own its implementation across any part of the stack — whether that's front-end, back-end, infrastructure, etc. You will solve hard architectural riddles and answer questions like “How do I build this? How does it all fit together?”

You will work both independently and with engineers, designers, product leads, and more in the service of improving users' lives, without regard for internal silos or barriers. You will communicate proposals, discuss with others in the team, incorporate feedback, and drive positive change.

      Responsibilities

      • Talk to users to understand their current and future needs, filter user feedback, analyze product issues, produce requirements, and develop implementations that will enable our users to effectively manage the health of their own fleets
      • Help inform the product roadmap and contribute to prioritization and tradeoff discussions when deciding what to build and focus on
      • Lead the development of new user-centric features across the balena product stack
      • Contribute to documentation and user-facing guides for the implementations you develop
      • Work closely with the customer success team and engineers on support; you’ll often be asked to lend your expertise and contribute to internal docs/scratchpad to extract your knowledge and educate others
      • Constantly question how we can address user needs with long-term product improvements and developments, rather than short-term fixes. Look for ways we can abstract feedback and build generic solutions for all users

      Requirements

      • Breadth of experience, having worked on front-end, back-end and whatever it takes to make users successful and delighted
      • Up-to-date software engineering knowledge and problem-solving skills (both in development and in production mode)
      • Customer-facing skills; ability to understand user needs through conversation and product intuition, articulate their challenges to the team, and build and deploy solutions
      • Drive for execution, taking ownership and pushing projects to completion
      • Humbleness to ask for support from experts within the team when their particular skills are required
      • Ability to both hold the big picture in mind and dive into the weeds
      • Being curious and willing to constantly build on your knowledge of the balena product and new technologies when needed
      • Continuous improvement mindset and desire to make yourself and others more effective
      • Being comfortable working in an environment that practices radical candor and transparency
      • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English

      Bonus points

      • Experience with technologies like Typescript, React, Node.js, Docker, PostgreSQL, or Kubernetes
      • Experience leading software projects or bringing people together to collaborate and build great products
      • Contributions to OSS projects (please include a URL)
      • Interest in embedded systems as demonstrated through personal projects with a Raspberry Pi, commercial or industrial experience with connected devices, etc.
      • Experience with balena as a user
      • Having worked remotely before

Make sure to let us know if any of these items apply to you. If possible, please also share a sample of your work (URL or attachment).

      To apply

We strongly recommend that you have a look at/try our platform first (set up a balenaCloud account, test it and even push an app). Along with your CV/Resume, please answer the questions in our application form to help us get the context right.
