      What you'll do

Core Infrastructure plays a fundamental role in both our on-premise infrastructure and our efforts to upgrade infrastructure towards AWS. As an infrastructure engineer you will be part of implementing the infrastructure to support the continued growth of Scribd's foundation. You will be part of the team which manages our existing on-premise datacenter, while helping service owners move into a newer AWS-centric model. You will help in this shift from a traditional operations organization into a services-organization which provides key components to our backend technology stack such as: container orchestration infrastructure, logging services, monitoring and alerting patterns, caching layers, and relational/non-relational clustered data storage. You and your team will educate developers and help delegate traditional operational responsibilities to teams which are already taking an increased level of ownership of their production environment. Sharing your experience and good judgement will be crucial to helping these teams scale their services operationally for years to come.

      Required Skills
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills (we're remote!)
      • Mentoring skills: experience with training and educating teammates or colleagues on contemporary operational best practices.
      • Infrastructure engineering passion
      • Experience with infrastructure as code tools and thoughts about their respective strengths and weaknesses
      • Software development background, for example: familiarity with git and common software development practices, ability to write tests, and being capable of reading and understanding the code in order to participate in the code review process.
      • Positive attitude! Operations can breed cynicism and we can only succeed with a shared belief that we can solve the hard problems.
      • Ability to lead deep technical design discussions within your team, and across partner teams.
      Desired Skills
      • Strong understanding of AWS platform services and their strengths/weaknesses.
      • GCP or Azure experience is also good
      • Experience managing clustered data applications
      • Experience working to improve 24/7 on-call rotations, reducing alert fatigue and improving automation
      • Experience with datacenter or major cloud migrations.
      • Ability to read code written Ruby or Python
      • Ability to write code in Go and Bash
      • Ability to debug YAML :)

With over 10,000 online merchants launching subscriptions and over 1,000,000 subscribers powered by ReCharge, we have a lot of store owners to support. Our mission to make repeat orders easier began five years ago as a bootstrapped startup and today we're at the forefront of recurring billing software with over 150 remote-first employees around the globe processing tens of millions of dollars in sales every week.

We're looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join the Infrastructure Operations team and collaborate on a critical part of the platform. • Implement new technologies to solve ReCharge's technical challenges as they arise.

      • Typically, 5+ years of relevant infrastructure operations experience in fast paced environments

      • Experience with auto-scaling, serverless infrastructure components
      • Experience with Terraform, MySQL, SQLAlchemy,Git/Github, lint
      • A knack for engineering simple solutions to solve complex problems
      • Willingness to participate in a first line of support on-call rotation
      • Ability to work remotely and desire to make an impact at a boot-strapped start-up
      • Proficient with Signalfx or other SaaS monitoring solution desired
      • Bachelor‚Äôs degree or equivalent experience desired
    • The world has over a million APIs, and we're on a mission to create a sandbox for every one of them. We are looking for an energetic, outgoing developer that enjoys nurturing partnerships with API-driven communities, from Salesforce to Stripe to Mastercard, to help them prototype faster and test smarter with Meeshkan sandboxes.

      About the role

We are looking for a developer that loves participating in API-driven communities to spread the word about our innovative sandboxing technology. As Head of Developer Relations, you'll be in charge of growing our existing partnerships and forging new ones with users of APIs from Google, PayPal, Stripe, Alpaca, Mastercard and Amadeus, to name a few. These partnerships manifest themselves in several ways:

      • conducting market research surveys.

      • helping people build API sandboxes.

      • creating MVPs around APIs to spur collaboration.

      • answering questions about integration testing and helping people write tests.

What unites these disparate tasks is that they help foster and sustain a long-term dialogs with communities of API users that, in turn, help us build the best API-sandboxing tool on the planet.

      Who is a good fit

The core of the role is research and learning. If you love attending and speaking at meetups, participating in online communities, building API-related MVPs, and solving problems with thought leaders in the API space, this role is for you.

Here are some soft requirements for the position:

      • Two to three years of experience as a developer, developer advocate or technical writer.

      • Outgoing personality, with a passion for meeting people and learning about how they use APIs.

      • Ability to work in a remote-first company and independently organize work.

      • An active presence, or a desire to build and active presence, on important developer forums such as twitter, glitch and dev.to.

      • Strong organizational skills, as there are thousands of API-centric communities and all of them function at different paces, so you'll have to keep track of many ongoing conversations.

      • Novel ideas for how to measure and assess developer engagement with our open-source projects.

      • Ability to assist in technical sales to API providers that purchase a sandbox from Meeshkan.

      What we can offer

Meeshkan provides the ideal environment for intellectually curious individuals to grow and learn, giving employees a high degree of freedom to organize their work. At the same time, we value consensus, even if it means spending extra time to arrive at a conclusion. We are a remote-first team, and we encourage people to visit us in Helsinki as often as possible to enjoy working from our spacious and relaxed Helsinki office.

You'll also be working with an intensely mission-driven team. We believe that API sandboxes democratize access to technology by allowing developers to interact with a copy of an API that may not otherwise be available to them. By lowering the barrier of access to technology, we believe that API sandboxes will create new classes of developers in a world that desperately needs innovative software solutions to pressing problems. Sandboxes also allow technology experts to explore novel ideas in property-based and fuzz testing, increasing software's resiliency at a time where our interconnectedness exposes us to more security threats and more brittle integrations than ever before. All that is to say that one great reason to work at Meeshkan is because we believe that we are solving a large, pressing, industry-wide problem with a cutting-edge solution.

Finally, Meeshkan is a great place for people that enjoy owning the work they do. Ownership manifests itself in several ways, from generous stock-options for full time employees to ownership over zones of our operations (sales, content, marketing, product, etc) to public ownership of your work, as almost all of our code is open source and all our research is turned into articles. That means that, from week one, there will be a public record of your accomplishments that you can be proud of!

    • Wikimedia Foundation, Inc.

The Wikimedia Foundation is hiring two Site Reliability Engineers to support and maintain (1) the data and statistics infrastructure that powers a big part of decision making in the Foundation and in the Wiki community, and (2) the search infrastructure that underpins all search on Wikipedia and its sister projects. This includes everything from eliminating boring things from your daily workflow by automating them, to upgrading a multi-petabyte Hadoop or multi-terabyte Search cluster to the next upstream version without impacting uptime and users.

We're looking for an experienced candidate who's excited about working with big data systems. Ideally you will already have some experience working with software like Hadoop, Kafka, ElasticSearch, Spark and other members of the distributed computing world. Since you'll be joining an existing team of SREs you'll have plenty of space and opportunities to get familiar with our tech (Analytics, Search, WDQS), so there's no need to immediately have the answer to every question.

We are a full-time distributed team with no one working out of the actual Wikimedia office, so we are all together in the same remote boat. Part of the team is in Europe and part in the United States. We see each other in person two or three times a year, either during one of our off-sites (most recently in Europe), the Wikimedia All Hands (once a year), or Wikimania, the annual international conference for the Wiki community.

Here are some examples of projects we've been tackling lately that you might be involved with:

      • ¬†Integrating an open-source GPU software platform like¬†AMD ROCm in Hadoop¬†and in the Tensorflow-related ecosystem
      • ¬†Improving the security of our data by adding¬†Kerberos authentication¬†to the analytics Hadoop cluster and its satellite systems
      • ¬†Scaling the¬†Wikidata¬†query service, a semantic¬†query endpoint for graph databases
      • ¬†Building the Foundation's¬†new event data platform¬†infrastructure
      • ¬†Implementing¬†alarms¬†that alert the team of possible data loss or data corruption
      • ¬†Building a new and improved¬†Jupyter¬†notebooks ecosystem for the Foundation and the community to use
      • ¬†Building and deploying services in Kubernetes with Helm
      • ¬†Upgrading the cluster to Hadoop 3
      • ¬†Replacing¬†Oozie¬†by¬†Airflow¬†as a workflow scheduler

And these are our more formal requirements:

      • ¬† ¬†Couple years experience in an SRE/Operations/DevOps role as part of a team
      • ¬† ¬†Experience in supporting complex web applications running highly available and high traffic infrastructure based on Linux
      • ¬† ¬†Comfortable with configuration management and orchestration tools (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, SaltStack, etc.), and modern observability infrastructure (monitoring, metrics and logging)
      • ¬† ¬†An appetite for the automation and streamlining of tasks
      • ¬† ¬†Willingness to work with JVM-based systems¬†¬†
      • ¬† ¬†Comfortable with shell and scripting languages used in an SRE/Operations engineering context (e.g. Python, Go, Bash, Ruby, etc.)
      • ¬† ¬†Good understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and debugging skills
      • ¬† ¬†Strong English language skills and ability to work independently, as an effective part of a globally distributed team
      • ¬† ¬†B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, related field or equivalent in related work experience. Do not feel you need a degree to apply; we value hands-on experience most of all.

      The Wikimedia Foundation is...

Our vision is a world in which every single human can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. In 2017, immigrants worldwide sent over $600 billion home to family and friends, dwarfing foreign governmental aid. Sendwave's mission is to change that by making sending money anywhere in the world as easy and affordable as sending a text. Since 2014, our app has allowed users in North America and Europe to send money instantly to mobile money wallets in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria (and soon Bangladesh and Senegal) saving our users over 70% relative to Western Union and MoneyGram.

      • Complete the verification process for all new users, determining if they will be allowed to transact with Sendwave.

      • Complete the verification process for users requesting to raise limits.

      • Use our anti-fraud tools and verification systems to keep fraudsters off our platform.

      • Participate in trainings & team meetings.

    • Platform.sh is a groundbreaking hosting and development tool for web applications. We‚Äôre a European VC-Backed startup with a host of blue-chip Enterprise clients and a string of awards and grants (including ‚ā¨2m from the EU Horizon 2020 program).

Platform.sh is built on top of open source languages, libraries and projects. But we never shy away from writing code. This means that even if there is an existing open source project that covers much of the functionality of something we want to achieve, we will consider, and often enough, chose to write our own implementation; Because sometimes 80/20 is not good enough. We have our own orchestration layer, our own reverse proxy, our own file-systems, our own reproducible build system.
