      What Will You Do!
      • Work on high impact projects that improve data availability and quality, and provide reliable access to data for the rest of the business.
      • Drive the evolution of Medium's data platform to support near real-time data processing and new event sources, and to scale with our fast-growing business.
      • Help define the team strategy and technical direction, advocate for best practices, investigate new technologies, and mentor other engineers.
      • Design, architect, and support new and existing ETL pipelines, and recommend improvements and modifications.
      • Be responsible for ingesting data into our data warehouse and providing frameworks and services for operating on that data including the use of Spark.
      • Analyze, debug and maintain critical data pipelines.
      • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL, Spark and AWS technologies.
      Who You Are!
      • You have 7+ years of software engineering experience.
      • You have 3+ years of experience writing and optimizing complex SQL and ETL processes, preferably in connection with Hadoop or Spark.
      • You have outstanding coding and design skills, particularly in Java/Scala and Python.
      • You have helped define the architecture, tooling, and strategy for a large-scale data processing system.
      • You have hands-on experience with AWS and services like EC2, SQS, SNS, RDS, Cache etc or equivalent technologies.
      • You have a BS in Computer Science / Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
      • You have knowledge of Apache Spark, Spark streaming, Kafka, Scala, Python, and similar technology stacks.

      Responsibilities

      - You will be responsible for creating and maintaining company KPI dashboards so everyone across the company can monitor our performance (we are transparent and data-driven), and team leads can make informed decisions. This means writing a LOT of SQL -- and making sure the data is accurate and reliable.

      - Then, you will explain those metrics to leadership and each team, making sure they understand the ins-and-outs of the data. As a data analyst, you know that there are caveats behind every single chart; it’s your job to make sure that your audience understands it too when they make business-critical decisions. This may come in 1:1 meetings, team meetings, or deep dive sessions.

      - You will also be called on and counted on for supporting ad hoc requests from the leadership, and to help with preparing board decks. These may happen last-minutely and urgently, and you’ll be expected to act quick, without compromising quality.

      - To do all of these, we need a solid foundation of data warehouse and architecture. Together with your manager, you will build and maintain our data warehouse and architecture. That means working with engineering to integrate new data sources (as our teams adopt new internal tools). It also means creating and maintaining clear documentation on data flow, schema, and naming convention.

      - You are at the frontline at fostering a data-driven culture across the company. Champion for single source of truth (SSOT), and champion for understanding and using data the right way.

      What we're looking for:
      • Three years of analytics experience: At least three years of analytics experience. Prior experience in an analytics role specifically focused on product or growth is highly preferred
      • Experience at a high-growth company: Analytics experience with high-growth businesses. Ideally, those with well-defined, product-enabled funnels and complex, high-volume customer flows.
      • Technical education: A bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or Finance).
      • Proficiency across analytics tools: Deep experience with analytical SQL queries (e.g., inner/left/right joins, CTEs, and window functions). Some experience with scripting within a notebook environment, preferably using Python, Pandas and Jupyter. A desire to grow your modeling, machine-learning, and data-science skills. Familiarity with basic statistics (e.g., distributions, experiments, significance testing, and linear regression).  Experience with a major analytics/visualization platform (e.g., Tableau or Looker). 
      • Proficiency across growth tools: Productive with growth tools. Specifically a product or events analytics platform (e.g., Google Analytics, Amplitude or Segment) and an AB testing tool (e.g., Optimizely or  VWO).
      • Right soft skills: Passion for data, discovery, and problem-solving. Curious; confident; open to questioning assumptions and being questioned. Effective communicator across technical and business audiences.  Able to manage stakeholder expectations and work with hands-on executives. Entrepreneurial; fast-moving; able to balance vision and execution; and not easily discouraged. Instinct for value, and focused on the incremental.

      The Data Scientist will help build, scale and maintain the entire data science platform. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical understanding, hands-on experience in building Machine Learning models coming up with valuable insights, and promoting a data-driven culture across the organization.       About you:

      We’re seeking an experienced manager to help accelerate our rapid growth in the wake of a recent Series B funding round. As a manager, you will drive the analytics strategy to improve our product and inform our acquisition strategy.
