      What does the Machine Learning team do?

      The Machine Learning team is empathetic to our users. We build and deploy models, experience the whole Machine Learning lifecycle. We turn that experience into stories, content, demos, and perhaps most importantly, feedback into the product. We can split our responsibilities into three broad categories that contributes to the company's mission:

      Content

      The ML team thinks about the best practices for machine learning systems, and tries to be on the forefront of thought leadership in our space. We produce blogs and technical demos. This isn’t limited just within the Algorithmia platform, but includes full pipelines demonstrating the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle. We keep an eye on newly released open-source models, and add them to the platform. However, this responsibility is secondary to the focus on how to do machine learning in production.

      Product

      The ML team drives value to the company through what it brings to the product. Many features developed by the ML team is being used in customer demos. The team adds & maintains new programming languages & runtime environments for algorithms. We keep up with the developments in all major ML frameworks. We try out common ML workflows, and work with product to ensure the platform can support those integrations.

      Support

      The ML team provides deep technical support at the algorithm/model level.

      As a Machine Learning Engineer at Algorithmia, you will:

      • Write production-quality code that solves real world problems, in any of our supported algorithm development languages

      • Create blog posts, integrations & demos for end-to-end machine learning systems

      • Build & maintain build/runtime environments for all major machine learning frameworks: Tensorflow, PyTorch, MXNet, Caffe, AllenNLP, SpaCy, etc

      • Develop tools to use for Data Scientists from top Fortune 100 companies around the world

      • Work with a passionate, distributed team on the cutting edge of AI/ML infrastructure

      • Are a skilled software engineer with experience in more than one programming language  (such as Python, Java, Scala, etc.) and deep understanding of at least one (we do a lot of Python - and will be happy to teach you the other languages)

      • Experience working on distributed systems, industry data science, any kind of public AI/ML projects, distributed or parallel computing, or the implementation of something cool on our AI marketplace (hint: free trial!)

      • Having practical experience or a degree (MS/PhD is a plus) in Computer Science including practical areas of Machine Intelligence (or Deep Learning), and excellent fundamentals in computer science, algorithms, and software design

      About the Role

      Andela’s Partner Engineering department is charged with delivering high value and quality software engineering services for our Clients (we call them Partners). Our core delivery model is embedded teams­­­ of software engineers who are remote and distributed. 

      Andela is looking for a Senior Director to lead how we enable and power engineering services with a strong bias towards action that can spot what needs to be done, effectively prioritize and mobilize teams to accomplish Andela’s overarching goals.  

      You will design, evolve and scale operational effectiveness that enable how our software engineers deliver for our partners. Including:

      • The overall productivity and effectiveness of the delivery organization. Leveraging  a small yet highly leveraged team who spike in analytical thinking, project and stakeholder management, and getting stuff done. 
      • The measurement and operational functions essential to Andela’s delivery across the partner journey.  These include planning, reporting, quota setting and management, process optimization, training and program implementation.
      • The systems and technologies used to differentiate and impact how Andela delivers. Enabling talented people to deliver their best, providing the support and quality control needed to help them through challenges, and developing the processes, protocols and procedures necessary to scale with our Partners.

      As such, you’ll need to be an expert in building, managing and measuring operational functions essential to the productivity of high performing service organizations, and can operate with a high degree of autonomy. You would be constantly asking yourself:

      • How do I ensure that our Delivery teams have the best insights to better manage their portfolios and maximise growth and margins?
      • How do I ensure that Andela’s Engineering teams are prepared, supported, and continue to grow as they deliver for our Partners?

      Responsibilities:

      • With the VP of Partner Engineering and Senior Directors, co-authors and co-owns the delivery strategy including, segmentation, resource allocation and cost of delivery.
      • Designs, implements, and manages forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes. Establishes high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency in planning, forecasting, and budgeting approaches used by the sales organization.
      • Defines the optimal performance measurements and performance management programs required to ensure success. Aligns reporting, training, onboarding and incentive programs with these performance management priorities. Leads efficient and accurate reporting initiatives.
      • Partners with multiple internal stakeholders, especially the heads of Talent Supply, Staffing, Demand, Operations etc to identify opportunities for delivery process improvement. Facilitates successful implementation of new programs through the delivery organization by ensuring well defined, efficient processes are utilized.
      • With Technology and Revenue Operation leaders , primary owner of all software platforms used by Andela delivery functions. Prioritizes investments in enabling technologies in support of delivery productivity. Recommends changes and enhancements to tracking delivery and performance tracking platforms.
      • Provides leadership to the delivery organization, and counsel to the executive team, in implementing engineering service delivery objectives that appropriately reflect Andela’s goals.  
      • Designs incentive compensation programs that reinforce delivery management strategy, and align with Andela’s business organization objectives. 
      Qualifications
      • Four ­year degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited university.
      • Over 12 years experience enabling service delivery teams in software development, technology consulting and/or software product management
      • A minimum of 5 years in leadership or executive teams dring excellence in service delivery.
      • Proven ability to build, manage and grow a team-oriented and high-performing organization.
      • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.

      Summary

      The Wikimedia Foundation’s Product Design Strategy Group is seeking a Design Research Manager to manage our small team of researchers and to organize, orchestrate and lead larger research initiatives. All the research projects the Design Strategy team takes on directly support various product development initiatives underway at any given time. A key aspect of this role will be to gather the pressing questions each product team is weighing, evaluate them in terms of urgency and potential impact, and then define lean methodologies for providing answers. 

      The Design Research Manager will act in a dual capacity of framing and managing design research projects across the Product team, tracking the work of individual design researchers while also contributing as a lead researcher. The person in this role will be responsible for developing the strategic research and experimentation that helps inform and inspire future product and platform decisions.

      We are looking for someone that can grow with our team over time. You will start as a Data Analyst, but it won’t be any ordinary analyst. You will get plenty of exposure to the leadership team (think weekly), reporting directly to one of the founders. You will also get to work closely with our engineering team to build and maintain our data warehouse and data infrastructure, in addition to answering business questions.

      Responsibilities

      - You will be responsible for creating and maintaining company KPI dashboards so everyone across the company can monitor our performance (we are transparent and data-driven), and team leads can make informed decisions. This means writing a LOT of SQL -- and making sure the data is accurate and reliable.

      - Then, you will explain those metrics to leadership and each team, making sure they understand the ins-and-outs of the data. As a data analyst, you know that there are caveats behind every single chart; it’s your job to make sure that your audience understands it too when they make business-critical decisions. This may come in 1:1 meetings, team meetings, or deep dive sessions.

      - You will also be called on and counted on for supporting ad hoc requests from the leadership, and to help with preparing board decks. These may happen last-minutely and urgently, and you’ll be expected to act quick, without compromising quality.

      - To do all of these, we need a solid foundation of data warehouse and architecture. Together with your manager, you will build and maintain our data warehouse and architecture. That means working with engineering to integrate new data sources (as our teams adopt new internal tools). It also means creating and maintaining clear documentation on data flow, schema, and naming convention.

      - You are at the frontline at fostering a data-driven culture across the company. Champion for single source of truth (SSOT), and champion for understanding and using data the right way.

      - Lastly, train and guide other teammates (sales ops, customer success ops, etc.) on how they can best use data to guide their own work.

    • Finance Business Unit Director

      The Finance Director for an Automattic Business Segment is a highly visible role that includes frequent interaction with C-level leaders, business and operational executives, and other key internal and external stakeholders. As a leader within the Finance team, this role’s overarching charter includes FP&A business support in delivering relevant and insightful analysis that enables effective decision-making. 

      This role has responsibility for developing a comprehensive understanding of all key business drivers and sophisticated financial models which will enable you and your team to deliver insightful, value-added analysis. The ability to meld operational and financial measurement and analytics is paramount.

      The Director will work across businesses, to ensure the finance function supports and facilitates growth and works collaboratively with the entire executive team to set strategic direction and drive enterprise success. 

      We will expect this position to drive significant improvements in processes, systems, and metrics/reporting, with the goal to provide transparency and insight to a complex, growing company. 

      She or he will be heavily engaged in ad hoc analytical and decision-making support including potential partnerships, acquisitions and growth initiatives, marketing analysis, pricing, key investments in LTV, SAC, and other KPI’s relevant to Automattic.

      Additional Responsibilities

      • Oversee the creation of reporting packages, in support of providing business partners with timely and insightful summaries, dashboards, and KPI’s of financial results. Highlight results to the leadership team and provide recommended action steps. Prepare financial presentations for the monthly and quarterly board/sponsor update meetings
      • Ownership of an annual budget and 12-month rolling forecast of the P/L, B/S and CF. Organize/conduct management reviews on a regular cadence to drive decisions and actions.
      • Provide leadership and support for a 3 yr business plan, incorporating the financial impacts of company strategies and initiatives to develop models to project, evaluate and quantify scenario planning, investment analysis, and operational variables assessment.
      • Assist in overall business intelligence and data architecture of the company. Focus and oversight of data and systems for scalable and repeatable measurement and analytics.
      • Analyze and extract insights from complex data sets and communicate insights and provide suggestions for action and improvement. 
      • Provide support and analysis on potential partnerships, acquisitions and growth initiatives, including standard financial models and metrics for financial analysis and assessment.
      • Serve as a champion for cost management and waste reduction across the company by leading the development, monitoring, and reporting of key operational metrics and driving processes to improve productivity and efficiency within the businesses and functions. 
      • Build, lead, and maintain an insights-driven, high-performing finance organization to create sustainable value and support the strategic priorities of Automattic.       Candidate Profile:

      The ideal candidate is an experienced and analytical professional who thrives on building companies and thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.       • Experience with scale and global complexity, as well as experience supporting growth through new business models and adjacent revenue streams.

      Senior Technical Program Manager - Edge Engineering
