  • Seeking an experienced cryptographer to help us research and develop state of the art cryptosystems to upgrade the internet.

    Research at Protocol Labs

This isn't an ordinary Research Scientist position.  Your expertise is mostly driven by both a hunger to learn and a need to work toward solving important problems.  Our research scientists are granted both the freedom to develop their knowledge by working on novel applications, and a responsibility to contribute those skills toward advancing the flagship projects of Protocol Labs.  You’ll feel at home working with us if your knowledge and optimism enables you to name a few unusual possible approaches when you’re first presented with a problem that people often consider intractable.

We see cryptography often acting as the last line of defense in a world that’s rife with malicious actors.  We examine a broad spectrum of potential projects, like Filecoin, that rely on providing various cryptographic guarantees to users.  Achieving these guarantees in practice often requires drawing from or advancing the frontiers of cryptographic protocols.  As a result, we seek cryptographers who can discover, conceive of, incorporate, and implement new techniques.

As Research Scientist at Protocol Labs you will…

    • Participate in cutting-edge research in cryptography and blockchain technology

    • Develop novel systems and protocols while studying and learning from existing ones

    • Work with the development team on turning the research into implementations

    • Work with external teams to oversee development and maintenance of cryptographic libraries

You may be a fit for this role if you have...

    • MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or Math with an emphasis on developing and implementing cryptographic protocols, or equivalent practical experience.

    • Experience contributing to research communities and/or efforts, including publishing papers at conferences.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Bonus Points

    • You have a record of demonstrating state-of-the-art innovation in cryptography with a proven publication record or project history. Potentially including but not limited to authenticated data structures, elliptic curve pairings, authenticated encryption, graph traversals, pebblings games, and zero knowledge proofs.

    • You’ve implemented novel crypto and would feel comfortable overseeing others doing the same.

    • You believe that if you can’t explain something to a six-year-old, then you don’t understand it yourself, and your experience mentoring or writing technical explainers or blog posts demonstrates that you enjoy testing your understanding against this metric.

    • You have programming experience and proficiency in one or more of the following: Go, Rust, JavaScript, C, C++, Haskell, OCaml.

    • You’ve demonstrated the ability to design and execute on research agenda.

    • You have experience setting up or managing research collaborations or contractors.

    • You have dice specifically for generating hand-crafted, artisanal entropy.

What’s it like to work at Protocol Labs?

Protocol Labs mission is to improve humanity’s most important technology, the Internet. We build protocols, systems, and tools to improve how it works. Today, we are focused on how we store, locate, and move information. Our projects include IPFS, Filecoin, libp2p, and more.

    About the Role

VividCortex is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to architect and build our next-generation internal data platform for large scale data processing. You are at the intersection of data, engineering, and product, and run the strategy and tactics of how we store and process massive amounts of performance metrics and other data we measure from our customers' database servers.

We are a DevOps organization building a 12-factor microservices application; we practice small, fast cycles of rapid improvement and full exposure to the entire infrastructure, but we don't take anything to extremes.

The position offers excellent benefits, a competitive base salary, and the opportunity for equity. Diversity is important to us, and we welcome and encourage applicants from all walks of life and all backgrounds.

    • Work with others to define, and propose for approval, a modern data platform design strategy and matching architecture and technology choices to support it, with the goals of providing a highly scalable, economical, observable, and operable data platform for storing and processing very large amounts of data within tight performance tolerances.

    • Perform high-level strategy and hands-on infrastructure development for the VividCortex data platform, developing and deploying new data management services both in our existing data center infrastructure, and in AWS.

    • Measure and improve the code and system performance and availability as it runs in production.

    • Support product management in prioritizing and coordinating work on changes to our data platform, and serve as a lead on  user-focused technical requirements and analysis of the platform.

    • Help provide customer support, and you'll pitch in with other departments, such as Sales, as needed.

    • Rotate through on-call duty.

    • Understand and enact our security posture and practices.

    • Continually seek to understand and improve performance, reliability, resilience, scalability, and automation. Our goal is that systems should scale linearly with our customer growth, and the effort of maintaining the systems should scale sub-linearly.

    • Contribute to a culture of blameless learning, responsibility, and accountability.

    • Manage your workload, collaborating and working independently as needed, keeping management appropriately informed of progress and issues.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience building systems for both structured and unstructured data.

    • AWS infrastructure development experience.

Here at Crisp, we value the strength in teamwork, and strongly believe that it’s the key to Crisp’s success. By bringing together bright, motivated creators, wherever they live and work, we are leveraging humanity’s diversity of experience and background in order to understand the challenges facing our food supply, and solve them together. Come join us, and help build the type of business you’d like to be a part of.

We are a socially conscious, distributed team. We give you the opportunity to solve challenges in the global food industry while living where you’re most comfortable and working in areas where you can help foster and grow the community that you are a part of.

As one of the first members of the data science team at Crisp you have will have a unique opportunity to turn previously scattered and inconsistently structured data into immediately actionable food industry insights to reduce waste, increase freshness and much more.

You have a proven track record of reading data and making solid conclusions. You know both the art and science of analytics - not only do you know how to find answers in the data, you also know which questions should be asked in the first place and what data can help us further bolster our conclusions. You love engaging with customers, learning about their challenges and then diving into the data to see how to solve them!

    Signs of a great candidate

    • Collaborative. You know that your team members’ perspectives will make your solutions better. Similarly, you use your strengths to help us grow together.

    • Customer focused. User experience trumps everything. You understand that a product will have little value if customers don't enjoy using it.

    • Disciplined and reliable. We are a distributed company and you enjoy the benefits of working distributed while consistently delivering what you have committed to. When you hit a snag, you communicate and reset expectations early.

    • Appreciative of honest feedback. You know that the best way to learn and grow is through constructive feedback delivered kindly, but without unnecessary ambiguity. You view feedback given to you as an opportunity to get better and strive to do the same for others.

    • Work smarter and harder. You often identify a problem, design a solution and bring it to a state of completion - with others, or even on your own. You are fluent with your toolchain and can deliver well-designed, well-tested production-ready features quickly. You find ways of eliminating or automating stuff that is uninteresting or wasteful, rather than complaining about them.

    • Analytical and practical mind. You strive for simple, precise solutions to complex problems. Complex solutions are only acceptable when absolutely needed. You strive for correct solutions, but know what actually matters and when to make compromises. You know when to ship and when to optimize.

    Crisp’s Data Science Tech Stack

    • Modern libraries and frameworks.  We use Python with Pandas and Numpy for data science in production.  We use technologies like Jupyter and R during EDA.

    • Diverse technologies and algorithms, solving real world problems.  At Crisp you’ll work with a wide range of technologies and algorithms on a daily basis, in a focused effort to solve large scale problems.

    • Continuous deployment. Code is never far from being deployed to production, because if it’s not in production, it’s not solving problems in the real world. Our branch time spans are short, and features under development are hidden behind feature flags.

    • Cloud first. As a services offering in the 21st century, the cloud isn’t the future, it’s the present. We’re fully invested in using the features offered by our cloud provider in order to minimize technical debt and maximize productivity.

    • Micro-services. Not for the sake of the buzz, but when they make sense. By adopting a modern, thoughtful services architecture we’re able to scale organizationally, reduce technical debt, and maintain a high, sustained velocity.

    • Start-up mode.  The team is still small, and the product is fresh.  You’ll be able to exert a large amount of influence, and contribute to decisions that will determine the future of the product and the team.

We are building a team of developers with a breadth of combined experiences so that we can collaboratively build great products. There are no hard requirements on specific background, experience or geographical location. Instead we’re looking for individuals that are capable, reliable, and hoping to grow along with us. Do you have strengths you can share? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Hudl is changing the future of sports technology. We build video analysis and stat tools for teams around the world, at every level of competition. Our software provides over 4.2 million coaches and athletes the insights they need to win.

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team. This role requires experience designing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale data systems.

You’ll be a member of our Data Engineering team, which enables data analysis across Hudl. We currently support a 100TB data warehouse used by hundreds of people to make mission-critical decisions for our products and business. We’ll lean on your experience to guide projects that scale our systems and make data analysis more efficient across the company:

    • Redesigning our data systems from a warehouse-centric to a lake-centric architecture to be more cost-effective as our data volume grows.

    • Rolling out a structured events pipeline for analytics and productization of high-volume event streams.

    • Building a centralized, discoverable data catalog to enable users across the company to efficiently find and use data.

    You Will

    • Work closely with other teams, including engineers, business analysts, and product managers to understand their data analytics needs and implement solutions.

    You Are

    • Proficient at schema design and data modeling. You have experience with schema design and have a broad understanding of architectural patterns to consider when modeling data.

    • A strong communicator. Whether it’s explaining code to a peer, documenting a system for the team, or presenting an idea to stakeholders, you're articulate and engaging.

Here's to the crazy ones. The hackers. The doers. The passionate geeks in a world of corporate drones.

A cool, fully-remote startup is looking for a Senior Data Engineer… preferably one that does NOT suck! You must be speaking Python better than your mother tongue, and an expert when it comes to data pipelines.

First, let's get one thing out of the way. We know that our salaries are low, at least for the exceptional talent we're looking for. We plan to dramatically increase salaries by the end of the year when we raise a seed round. We have already attracted serious interest from top investors, but we're intentionally bootstrapping on our own till our public launch in time for Black Friday.

On top of the salary, you'll get generous stock options, performance-based bonuses, and annual profit share, as well as extensive training and mentoring, BUT…

You must be a perfectionist — you're simply too passionate about your work to call something "done" when it's not near perfect yet!

Do you remember how "Monica" from F.R.I.E.N.D.S was obsessed with the little details? Now, imagine if she became a software engineer somehow… Do you think this is you?

Okay, we want to hire you if you...

    • have 3+ years of data engineering hands-on experience with exposure to a wide array of BigData tools like task queues, message brokers, stream-processing frameworks, and AWS' data stack

    • have experience managing large-scale data pipelines in production

    • are proficient with Python2.7 and Python3 alike

    • have expert-level proficiency with ETL and data modeling

    • know your way around AWS, for real. [SQS, S3, Lambda, EC2, etc.]

    • are familiar with AWS Lambda and Serverless architecture

    • are skillful with web scraping using tools like Selenium and Scrapy

    • have ninja-level skills with SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL)

    • are proficient with UNIX and Shell Scripting

    • are comfortable working with petabyte-scale, billion-row datasets

It would be "nice" if you...

    • are skillful with backend development using Python, Django, and DRF (HUGE PLUS)

    • have experience with applied Machine Learning and recommender systems

    • have experience with any of these technologies: ElasticSearch, Golang, SQLAlchemy, Apache Kafka, or React Native

    • have DevOps experience and are familiar with either Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK

    • are not afraid of frontend work; React.js, Next.js, JavaScript, HTML, or CSS

    On top of that, you...

    • are passionate about making an impact in an early-stage startup with a kickass product

    • are productive, attentive, and self-driven

    • are familiar with Agile methodologies and CI/CD

    • have strong communication skills and fluency in English

    • can work in a fully remote environment

    • document and test your code

    • have Sherlock Holmes-like detective skills; you know how to dive deep into data investigations to identify unknown problems and debug data anomalies.

As a senior data engineer, you will...

    • architect, build, and maintain batch/real-time data processing pipelines

    • integrate a wide variety of data sources; third-party APIs, data feeds, etc.

    • build advanced web scrapers and crawlbots on top of AWS Lambda

    • take part in managing our Big Data infrastructure on AWS

    • develop creative solutions to our data problems with robust, production-ready code

    • build tools to automate data cleaning and ingestion

    • architect and implement a robust infrastructure for optimal ETL and distributed storage

Are you the real deal? Let's talk!

There's plenty of cool things to do; data processing pipelines, lots of integrations and APIs, infrastructure, and even a possibility of working with ML-powered deal recommendation engine.

If any of these things fall into your area of expertise and you're up for a challenge building a 10x product alongside a team of A-player hackers, now is the time to apply. You'll be joining us at the perfect time.

Need proof that we're building a kickass product? Check out our AngelList profile for a quick overview and some screenshots.

We'll hire the best engineer for the job regardless of your location. Timezones are not a problem as long as you're able to overlap with us for 3 hours a day. Our process is super fast, and you'll know our final decision within ten days max, so let's talk!

They also setup new GEO employees and process termination payrolls. And our Reporting team handle our internal payroll, company administration and reporting.

You’ll report directly to the company founders and be a key contributor to our leadership team. You'll have plenty of support from your team leads, the operational and project teams, our systems and our technology platform. All employees at Shield have flexibility about when and where they work. Most of us choose to work remotely with flexible hours.

    Working with Shield

If you are excited by the thought of playing an active role in a company that provides opportunities to create and innovate, you’re at the right place.

We’re a remote-friendly company with employees all around the world. We don’t want to be limited by location and are open to hiring anyone from anywhere – as long as it’s a great fit for us and you. Before we get to know you, we’d like to give you a sense of who we are and what is important to us. We hope this helps you decide if you want to be a part of Shield GEO.

Working remotely and flexibly with Shield Geo

    Leave policy

    Work equipment policy

    Workplace Diversity policy

    Do you share our values?

Our 4 values are integral to who we are. Our company culture is constantly evolving, every person who joins us adds something unique to our culture. But our values are shared by all Shield GEO employees. Do these values resonate with you?

We believe that personal growth and company growth go hand in hand. We look to foster our own growth and help grow the company. Every day is an opportunity to face a new challenge and get a little better. In our world of international employment it is impossible to know all the answers. Instead of trying to know everything, we focus on knowing how to solve problems. When mistakes happen we know it’s all part of the learning curve and we seek feedback to help us improve. We keep an eye on the big picture so we can identify improvements to processes and systems. As the problems become larger and more complex, it means that we’ll need more flexible and agile minds to come up with solutions.

    Own It

We are self-motivated and love to see tasks to completion. Our managers and team mates are often in different time zones, and that’s ok! We aren’t afraid to step up when things get a little tough. We don’t like to micro-manage or be micromanaged. We trust our team mates to carry out their part of the process. We are responsible for our own workload and making sure we get our most important things done each day. If we get stuck we proactively seek help. And we show our reliability and accountability by keeping our systems updated. This also means our results can speak for themselves.

    Do The Right Thing

Our clients trust us with compliance on their most important asset - their employees. This is a big responsibility! Doing the right thing means often times we choose a harder path and see it through to the end. It means we are open with our colleagues, clients and suppliers about bad news just the same as we share good news. And sometimes doing the right thing means we have to make decisions that will upset the very person we are trying to help. It’s a high standard but we stand by this very strongly. Doing the right thing also means considering how our actions impact those around us.

    Be Human

We are a service business and helping people is at the core of everything we do. We pride ourselves on how we interact with colleagues, service providers and clients. We recognize that in all areas we’re dealing with real humans.

We know that working remotely and dealing with such a mix of people around the world is challenging. We know that if we are having trouble understanding someone, they are also struggling to understand us. Empathy is fundamental to helping us discover what people mean and how they are feeling. To avoid misinterpretation we assume best intent in others.

Because so much of our communication is written and asynchronous, we default to over-communication. This means we give extra details because we don’t leave people guessing. We make sure our words are clear and easy to understand. And we are kind to our fellow humans.

    Your Background

    • More than five years experience within Finance

    • More than five years experience in a leadership role

That means video conferences and voice calls (Zoom), chat and messaging (Slack, Skype and Salesforce Chatter), shared documents (Dropbox). You’ll likely be working by yourself during parts of your day without access to tech support.

    • Experience with Salesforce or Xero is helpful but not essential.

    Essential Characteristics of this role

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to absorb information quickly. Because we are distributed across 9+ time zones and often working asynchronously clear and detailed written communication is particularly important.
