This position is perfect for someone who wants to get in on the ground floor at a startup that moves fast, tackles hard problems, and has fun!

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build the next generation of Kubernetes optimization products. You will make our products scale efficiently and work closely with our machine learning team to bring products from R&D into production.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing features as part of a Kubernetes CRD

  • Working alongside our machine learning team to create new products

  • Required qualifications

  • 3-5 years of software engineering experience

  • Proficiency in Go

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerization

  • Experience shipping and maintaining software products

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience building components to extend Kubernetes (CRDs, controllers, scheduler extensions, etc)

    Responsibilities:

    As a backend engineer in our platform guild, you’ll:

    • Contribute to the development of critical projects, working with other platform guild members.
    • Contribute to raising the high availability and reliability of Mixmax’s platform.
    • Advocate for cutting edge, and high quality, processes and tools  within the platform guild and across the entire engineering organization.
    • Use, and improve, our monitoring tools and platforms to help influence our technical roadmap with data driven decision making.
    • Work with Node, Go, AWS, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, Terraform, React.
    Requirements and skills you possess:
    • Excellent knowledge of at least one of: Node, Go, Mongo, Elasticsearch.
    • Past experience with distributed worker queues.
    • Working knowledge of at least one of the following AWS services: VPC, EC2, ELB, Lambda.
    • Have excellent documentation and communication skills.
    • Strive to grow personally and professionally, beyond just expanding technical abilities.
    Awesome if you also:
    • Have monitored large server fleets and complex interacting subsystems (we love Statsd and Grafana 💜).
    • Have experience architecting, deploying and operating asynchronous distributed work queues, high-volume storage systems, and high-throughput systems.
    • Are an open source contributor.

    Job Description

    You will be a part of a team that is responsible for developing, releasing, monitoring and troubleshooting large scale micro-service based distributed systems with high transaction volume. You enjoy learning new things and are passionate about developing new features, maintaining existing code, fixing bugs, and contributing to overall system design. You are a great teammate who thrives in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.

    All candidates will have

    • a Bachelor's or higher degree in technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
    • experience with high volume production grade distributed systems
    • experience with micro-service based architecture
    • experience with software engineering best practices, coding standards, code reviews, testing and operations
    • hands-on experience with Spring Boot
    • professional experience in writing readable, testable and self-sustaining code
    • strong hands-on experience with Java (minimum 8 years)
    • knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker
    • excellent troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities
    • excellent written and oral communication in English and interpersonal skills

    Ideally, candidates will also have

    • experience with Big Data technologies such as Kafka, Spark, and Cassandra

    Do you enjoy working with some of the latest technologies and using your expert Linux Administrator skills to automate routine system tasks? Do you like solving complex problems and finding solutions that scale appropriately in large, high-traffic environments? Are you comfortable working with a broad spectrum of software & services? If so, then we would like to hear from you!

    We are a small remote team of 3, looking for another curious, independent, and savvy DevOps engineer to build upon our continuous delivery pipelines using Kubernetes & Jenkins. We work with hybrid cloud environments and integrate many AWS services like EC2 & Lambda. Not a morning person? This full-time position has afternoon/evening hours: (ideally, 12pm-8pm Pacific give or take an hour).

    Responsibilities

    • Deploy, manage, & maintain applications and systems
    • Participate in on-call rotation
    • Implement, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines
    • Actively troubleshoot any issues and document solutions
    • Ensure system availability, respond to incidents, and handle escalations from other teams

    Requirements

    • 2+ years experience in a DevOps role (or similar)
    • Strong oral & written communication skills
    • Experience using Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, & RDS at a minimum)
    • Proficient with Linux systems administration (RHEL/CentOS & Ubuntu specifically)
    • Experience with CI/CD platforms (Jenkins)
    • Comfortable using version control (Git)
    • Proficiency with Docker container concepts
    • Prior experience maintaining high-availability systems

    Nice to Have

    • Kubernetes exposure
    • Previous experience with Ruby on Rails environments
    • Prior experience with monitoring systems such as Grafana, Zabbix, or Nagios
    • Configuration management tools such as Terraform and/or SaltStack
