We’re looking for a UX Researcher to join our talented team of technologists in driving this movement forward.

You’ll be a key part of our small, but rapidly growing team, which consists of former Presidential Innovation Fellows, founders of 18F, and members of the U.S. Digital Service.

We work in small, fast, agile teams to create exceptional customer experiences and enduring solutions out of the government’s most complex design and technology challenges. The work is challenging, but highly rewarding.

Your initial engagement will be with the State of Connecticut, which is one of the first state & local governments undertaking an organizational-wide digital transformation. The initial focus of this transformation is on improving services related to serving the needs of children and families. These services range from reducing infant deaths to improving early childhood development.

Our job is to help jumpstart and accelerate the State of Connecticut’s transformation through high-impact activities such as:

  • Identifying and prioritizing which services to improve through user experience research and technical discovery
  • Creating a comprehensive, flexible roadmap for change to guide decisions and actions around service improvement, policymaking, and budgeting
  • Instituting new digital policies & standards (for example, API standards)
  • Developing and empowering digital talent throughout the state government (for example, via recruiting, training, and coaching)
  • Executing on tightly-scoped delivery projects to set the foundation for broad-based change, as well as demonstrate the art of the possible

REQUIREMENTS

What you’ll do:

  • Find good user research participants
  • Apply a mix of quantitative and qualitative user research techniques (for example, user interviews and contextual inquiry) to gain greater empathy for the needs of users
  • Clearly communicate research findings with internal and external collaborators
  • Translate research findings into service / product design hypotheses
  • Employ usability testing to validate those hypotheses
  • Guide the direction of the service / product and continually advocate for users
  • Collaborate with others as part of a cross-functional team that includes user experience researchers and designers, product managers, engineers, and other functional specialists
  • Represent Skylight's culture of delivery when interacting with government stakeholders and other contractors

    • Understanding of multiple disciplines such as Product Management,  Engineering, Design, Sales, etc. 

    • A proven ability to problem solve and drive solutions with development teams through data analysis, market requirements, product specifications, and federal requirements

    We are looking for: A Senior Product Manager to join our team and help drive the design of our product.

    We need someone that is comfortable being hands on with the entire design product development process, identifying problems and championing them through the design and development process. You will work closely with our Director of Design on conceptualizing and implementing changes to our product that will drive an increase in trial conversion, and customer success.

    Responsibilities:

    • Understand our business strategy and deliver features/products that Shogun clients love. 

    • Deeply understand the product problems that you are tackling through user research and speaking with clients. Define and re-frame user problems for the team. 

    • Manage the roadmap—understand and prioritize potential projects from various inputs (user research, client support data, competitive analysis) so the team is always working on the most impactful projects. 

    • Collaborate with the founders, designers, and engineers to imagine the future and define solutions to big problems. 

    • Define a product scope that is focused on the most important use cases with a focus on getting it into users hands as quickly as possible. 

    • Define quantitative and qualitative success metrics and constantly evaluate if your solutions have solved the problem through these measures, both before and after it’s released. 

    • Deliver world-class software—maintain the quality of the product that your team is responsible for. 

    • Motivate a group of committed, smart people to do the best work of their careers.

    Requirements: 

    • Have experience in a Product Manager role. 

    • Have a strong design background, be able to think deeply about product design decisions and have an understanding of how to create simple user interfaces. 

    • Be a clear communicator of product decisions and the rationale behind them. 

    • You have experience working with both qualitative customer insights, and quantitative customer data to inform decisions. You’ve conducted user research, a/b tests and have worked closely with design researchers and analysts (or have analyzed data yourself). 

    • You’re entrepreneurial—you're self-driven and you default to action. 

    • You’re organized, not ad hoc. 

    • Be able to easily switch between thinking creatively and analytically.
