About MicroverseWe believe the place where you are born shouldn't determine your opportunities in life. We provide access to global opportunities by offering a world-class education no matter where you come from.

Microverse is an online school for software developers where students learn to work remotely with people from around the world. Students don't pay tuition until they get hired and start a global career. As of today, we have students in 100+ countries, and 96% of our graduates get a job within 6 months with an average salary increase of 240% working for companies like Microsoft, Huawei, and VMWare.

We are backed by amazing investors worldwide, including Y Combinator, Northzone, General Catalyst, and many world-class angel investors, such as Paul Graham, Paul Buchheit (the creator of Gmail), Kevin Hartz (the founder of Eventbrite), and Erica Brescia (Github's COO).

We are a passionate and fast-moving team of global citizens working remotely from 12+ countries. Being remote-first and transparent, we take pride in the amazing remote culture we are building, while also making time for in-person time with team members around the world. We are a small but mighty team of curious, life-long learners, who love tackling challenges and helping shape the future of education.

Talent is universal, but opportunity is not. We're on a mission to change that. With the recent closing of our Series A, there has never been a more exciting time to join our growing team.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager (PM) who will be responsible for discovering and delivering solutions, so we can combine the best of both worlds - technology and education - to create the most supportive online, multi-cultural peer-to-peer learning experience at scale. The job will require working with not only the development and design team, but also with operational staff working in Student Success, Admissions, and Career Services. At the same time, you'll be talking to our students from all around the world to understand their needs and how we can best help them achieve life-changing outcomes through our school. In this role, you will work to deeply understand our students and their needs; to create, maintain, and prioritize the product roadmap; to measure results to ensure we focus our resources on the right things.

Product at Microverse is more than just the software. You get the opportunity to bring a product mindset to the way we develop an entire learning experience. This includes the traditional user interface of a webapp, but also includes things like direct interactions between students when working on projects or sharing feedback with each other. Our user experience requires a lot of intentional and thoughtful design both online and off. Experimenting and iterating quickly with offline experiences can prove to be a challenge, but one that will be exciting for the right person. We also use No Code tools like Integromat and Zapier to integrate across numerous third party tools, so we're able to automate workflows and processes outside of traditional software development. Our No Code developers sit with our code developers, and they work together to maintain all the systems that enable us to scale. You will work to balance when we are developing products in software vs. no code, a spin-off of the traditional build vs buy question.

We are actively growing our Product Development teams nearly from the ground up. You'll get an opportunity to be a highly impactful member of a fast-growing, mission-driven start-up with ambitious goals and a strong culture of care and collaboration.

The Product Manager will report to the Head of Product & Learning, and day-to-day you'll work with a cross-functional team. You'll collaborate with experience designers, developers, and operational staff while working to achieve your goals. And while we are highly collaborative, we are also highly asynchronous and strive to abide by remote-first best practices. You'll send a lot of Loom videos and have comment conversations on documentation before meetings, so we can all stay off Zoom and maintain our flexible working schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Be the owner and driver for projects and initiatives that support continued student success, accountability, support, and structure.
  • Monitor the market and developing competitive analyses to drive product development strategy.
  • Actively listen to our users and develop clear user personas we can use in product discovery and development.
  • Balance your deep understanding of our user needs with our OKRs and business needs to define a product strategy and prioritize opportunities and requests accordingly.
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to write projects requirements, user stories, and drive development to completion in a cross-functional team.
  • Manage the end-to-end process of conceptualizing software or process improvements, acting as the glue between technical and non-technical teams.
  • Develop products in an iterative way with a focus on MVPs and running experiments, to ensure viability of changes before cementing them into the program.
  • Create and drive best practices for developing our learning experience in an experimental way, while maintaining trust with our students and ensuring a continuity of their learning experience.
  • Perform idea feedback collection from students and staff and run a product discovery process to turn it into a refined backlog prioritized for designers and developers.
  • Develop business requirements and specification documents.
  • Develop KPIs and agile/development metrics for measuring progress at team and feature levels.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager working with (at least loosely) Agile methodologies in collaborative, cross-functional teams.
  • Highly structured and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a track record of effectively prioritizing, communicating and coordinating efforts across teams.
  • Tools tools tools! You know tools, or know there is probably an existing tool out there and are not afraid to find it and add it to our No Code ecosystem if it makes sense to do so.
  • Experience conducting qualitative user interviews and quantitative research to explain and validate findings.
  • Experience taking new product ideas from zero to one; skilled at iterative sprints.
  • Experience using analytics and data to inform product decisions and measure post-launch impact.
  • Experience leveraging a wide variety of product-based analytics and a method for balancing instinct and data.
  • Experience working in a startup (fast-growth environment & technology-focused company).

You ideally...

  • Have high empathy for working with individuals from different countries and cultures.
  • Are eager to experiment and learn.
  • Are based in Africa, Europe, or the east coast of the Americas (for max. timezone overlap with the rest of the team)
  • Consider yourself to be a global citizen and are passionate about making opportunities more equally distributed around the world.
  • Have some experience working with a remote or distributed start-up, either as an employee or consultant
  • Have managed an online learning product
  • Have a good eye for design and understand the best practices in software development
  • Have worked remotely and asynchronously, especially for a startup
  • Will write the word "salsa" somewhere in your cover letter
  • Have experience with SQL
