As a designer at Stack Overflow, you’ll create and build products that directly impact the work and the lives of those developers.

In this particular role, you’ll be working alongside a small team dedicated to the Talent and Jobs product. We’re constantly exploring new directions for our products and working towards creating a more enjoyable experience for recruiters and developers alike. This is a great opportunity to work on a product with a wide variety of features and complex problems with a team that’s excited to solve them. And as a member of the product design team, you’ll also spend lots of time working with us, whether that’s contributing to our design system, participating in critique, or just hanging out with us in Slack. We’re a team that rejects competition between designers and instead embraces collaboration and is always looking for ways to teach and help each other. 

We’re looking for a generalist - someone who has or wants the skills to do everything from research to early-stage design explorations to high-fidelity prototypes and mockups and front-end development. But most importantly, we’re looking for someone who’s excited to join our small team, to dig into big projects, and to learn and grow with us.

While we’re very open to hiring remote (almost everyone on the design team is remote!), we need your working hours to overlap with (at least) the hours of 10AM - 1PM US Eastern time.

Skills & Requirements

What you’ll do:

  • Follow our fast-moving product development process in close collaboration with your product team

  • Identify when user research and experience design methods are necessary, and conduct or help conduct that discovery work

  • Design high-quality visuals, interactions, workflows, and copy that are user-centered and consistent with our design language

  • Use your design work appropriately in context with the overall product and business goals to impact and drive product strategy

  • Write (or learn how to write) clean and maintainable front-end code

  • Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team environment where design ideas and feedback are shared openly and with the best intentions

What we want to see:

  • Between 2-5 years of product design experience

  • Evidence of thoughtful, thorough experience design work

  • Evidence of internally consistent and high-quality visual designs

  • Experience with or interest in user research methods

  • Experience with or interest in learning basic front-end development (HTML, CSS, some JavaScript)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with (or the desire for) working in a distributed environment (where most team members are remote)

  • High levels of organization and ability to work independently

  • Bonus: experience with designing for developers or other technical audiences

  • Bonus: experience working on B2B products

  • Bonus: experience using (and/or contributing to) design systems

    Distru is a software platform streamlining the supply chain for the cannabis industry. Many of the top cannabis brands and distributors in California use our software to manage their entire operation from source to sale.     The Opportunity

    We are an intrinsically motivated team that works without ego, is constantly learning, and adapts our product to the customer. As our Product Designer, you must be able to work cross-functionally across teams, think deeply, and communicate clearly. You will be working closely with the founders, engineering team, and directly with our customers to help us define our product through iterative wireframes and high fidelity mock-ups. You will also become the champion of the customer creating magical moments that will have our customers writing you personal thank you emails like this one:

    This is a full time remote product designer role, but we are based in Oakland if you want to spend some time in person with some of the team.

    Things you might work on:

    • Improving our order fulfillment workflow that manages the entire distribution process from sale to the final delivery. This could include a mobile experience with barcode scanning, dashboard views of where orders are at in the process, and sales rep dashboards.

    • Mobile experience for delivery drivers that integrates with our core app to help distributors manage dispatch more efficiently and in real time.

    • Designing robust CRM interfaces including a pipeline view, granular sales reporting, gmail integrations, and sales rep tracking.

    Your Role

    • Own key features, timelines, and deliverables

    • Collaborating directly with customers, product, engineering, operational teams, and company leadership to ensure the best solution possible makes it to market

    • Rapidly iterate on interactions and product design from ideation to implementation

    • Communicating designs through sketches, mockups, prototypes, storyboards, design reviews or whatever is necessary for that particular release or project 

    Experience Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience as a UX/UI designer for SAAS, supply chain, or enterprise software

    • Worked directly with customers and clearly relayed feedback to engineering team

    • Worked with multiple stakeholders across multiple teams and customers to scope a feature

    • Strong portfolio that highlights iterative UX design, research, mobile design, visual design, persona creation, and design process

    • Deep knowledge of design tools such as Sketch, Adobe CS, Invision, Omnigraffle, Balsamiq, or others

    • Track record of impactful research that drives great insights and user experience

    • Strong written communication and experience in working on a remote team is a plus
