Job type: Other

Hiring from: Europe

Category: Design

Frontastic is looking for a Lead UI/UX Designer (f/m/*) as either part-time or full-time employee or freelancer. We are a remote-first company currently operating in the Europe/Berlin timezone. Locations in or close to Germany are preferred to make our regular in-person meetings easier.

Many startups believe that amazing UI/UX is a “nice to have”. For us, it’s a “must have” and an important key to achieve our vision: to be the standard for management and delivery of digital customer experiences on every device in the API-economy.

We’re looking for our first lead designer. You love taking creative risks, and have a thoughtful approach to both UI and UX? Then we should talk! Your goals will be twofold: how can you best improve the experience for customers and marketers, and how can you do so in a magnificently beautiful way?

This is not a junior position. If you are experienced, have proven to be able to work independently and like being a design mentor for everyone working at Frontastic, this position is for you.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop the Frontastic design language for our products and lead the user experience of our software products

  • Collaborate with business and engineering teams to understand and translate complex ideas into new features, screens and interface elements

  • Maintain design coherence and brand consistency across all Frontastic products, while providing guidance to other teams

  • Build functional and beautiful interfaces for our product

  • Create assets for our platform, including: thumbnails, banners, product images and more

WHO YOU ARE

  • You have 3+ years of digital product design experience, working in B2B and B2C web applications

  • You have demonstrated experience working across all phases of the product design process, including ideation, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, copywriting, specs, visual assets, and other deliverables

  • You have a strong portfolio showcasing your best work

  • You are fluent in product design tools like Sketch, Figma or Framer

  • You have a can-do, startup mentality

  • You don’t see UX in isolation, but rather as a team attitude

  • You are motivated to work from your home office or a co-working space and able to structure your work day accordingly.

  • You are able and willing to prefer written communication to make well structured information readily available to everyone and follow established communication patterns

  • You are motivated to work from your home office or a co-working space and able to structure your work day accordingly. That’s what makes you special.

WHAT WE OFFER

As our colleague you have the flexibility to choose your own working hours throughout the day to incorporate this job into your life-work balance. Our work week has 40 hours maximum and overtime is the exception. No vacation days are necessary to run errands, and there is certainly no need to wait until after work to take care of a family emergency.

Our team strives to improve themselves following these guidelines:

  • We offer a friendly learning environment and try hard not to blame anyone for not knowing something and actively encourage mentoring of your peers.

  • We use practices like pair programming, mob programming, test driven development when it makes sense and continuously refactor our code to constantly share knowledge and keep the amount of technical dept low.

  • We are a remote-first company with regular meetings in-person. We use tools like Email, AirTable, Hangouts and Slack to stay in touch during our daily work.

  • We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. If we receive job applications from yet underrepresented groups those applications will be preferred.

    • Flexible hours: There’s a life outside of work. That’s why our distributed team works from where they want, when they want. And they get tons of work done.
    • Unlimited vacation time: We evaluate on value, not on time spent behind desks. Employees can take as many holidays as they need. This way they bring their A-game to the job.
    • Visits to Leuven: A few times per year the entire team gets together in the office in Leuven, the world’s capital of beer. We’ll fly you in so you can have fun with the team.

    Description
As a well-rounded user experience designer, your contributions will be the most highly visible in the organization, and our customer base. You should have a healthy appreciation of facing a variety of diverse challenges outside of your comfort level and working under pressure. A typical day in the life of a UI/UX lead just might include:

    • Mocking up UI and workflow for several new features being added to the platform.
    • Designing visuals, interactions, and individual assets for a new feature, such as latency visualizations across the entire network.
    • Interacting with customers to get feedback and better understand their needs to generate ideas for improved UI/UX based on such feedback, such as creating better data views for port capacity utilization.
    • Working closely with the product and software engineering teams to clearly communicate design ideas and get them implemented in the product.
    • Inspiring others in the company, from the executive team to customer support to think design first.
    • Researching additional ideas that you may have to improve the product/platform overall and sharing them with the team.

    Skills & Requirements
The candidates who will excel in this role naturally understand that the user experience can make or break even the best ideas. You are motivated to invent, create, and understand your target customer on a deep level. More specifics include:

    • Experience designing and delivery products start to finish, and working closely with engineering and product teams
    • Be highly proficient prototyping experiences by creating wireframes and mockups in the tool of our choice
    • Extensive experience creating original digital assets to support your design ideas in Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other graphic design tool sets
    • Solid experience implementing your ideas using HTML5, CSS, jQuery and JavaScript, so you understand design that is practical to implement.
    • Experience using Git
    • Strong desire to quickly iterate on product, and use data to drive decisions
    • A desire to break the mold and shrug the tried and true when it comes to displaying enormous and complicated data sets.
    • A never ending drive to create easy and intuitive workflows for complicated tasks

It’s also a plus if you:

    • Have some experience with AngularJS and D3.js.
    • Have a basic knowledge of various network concepts (routers, ports, IPs, VLANs, etc.)
  • Taskade is building real-time collaboration for distributed teams, starting with tasks. We are a team of startup veterans obsessed about improving team collaboration, workflow, and productivity. At Taskade, you’ll have the chance to work with a small, closely knit team and make a big impact on our product, business, and engineering efforts.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Product / UI / UX Designer who is passionate about creating practical, friendly and human solutions to complex problems. They will be joining the core team to help build the future of productivity.

    • Work directly with head of product and engineering leads

    • UI/UX mockups of new features

    • Design for the web, mobile web, mobile and desktop

    • Help create a coherent design language for the product

    • Create assets, sprites, graphics

    • Interview customers to gather feedback

We value “T-shaped” people. That is, people who are both generalists (highly skilled at a broad set of valuable things—the top of the T) and also experts (among the best in their field within a narrow discipline—the vertical leg of the T). An expert who is too narrow has difficulty collaborating. A generalist who doesn’t go deep enough in a single area ends up on the margins, not really contributing as an individual.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Strong communication skills, ability to articulate complex ideas

    • Over 4 years of experience designing products

    • Experience with Sketch, Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop, Framer and equivalent tools

    • Deep understanding and passion for team productivity and collaboration tools

    • (Bonus) HTML/CSS/JS, React/Redux
