Joy Labs is growing our completely distributed team to help us build a new experience, enabling communications between everyone with trust and empowerment. We are looking for a design teammate to lead & execute customer experience discovery, validation, and design our application experiences spanning mobile, web and native.

An experienced product designer, with a strong customer centric mindset who has demonstrated success in designing products from inception to market would be an ideal teammate.

As the first product designer at Joy Labs, you will be hands on to not only rapidly validating a new product, but also building a scalable design framework. You’ll engage with users through every stage of product validation and collaborate with product, growth and engineering peers to create the most functional and magical experiences to ensure we’re providing a product our users love.

What you’ll do:

  • Design a wholistic experience for our brand and product

  • Advocate and lead effective design practices, and best practices

  • Continually push our creative, visual, and interactive design capabilities

  • Partner with product to rapidly design & scale customer experiences

  • Partner with our growth team to design experiments testing demand

  • Build & improve a continually evolving design practice

  • Create design systems to enable rapid design and validation

About You:

  • 5+ years experience in consumer web/mobile product design

  • Strong visual design & user experience skills

  • Strong understanding of typography/layout/color, & advanced design principles

  • You‘re empathetic, and apply this to create experiences to solve problems

  • A passion for user engagement and strong interview skills

  • Experience in working with conceptual through growth stage products

  • Strong understanding of modern frameworks such as React

  • Strong understanding of HTML/CSS and Javascript

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Highly collaborative to effectively work with a distributed team

    What you’ll be working on day-to-day:

    • Be a crucial part in developing the product strategy ; working closely with product managers in understanding the scope, phasing deliveries and supporting in the needed design work.   

    • Rapidly create, prototype, test and iterate on designs.

    • Prepare, moderate and synthesize UX research.

    • Designing user interface solutions that bring simplicity and cohesion to complex design challenges from reporting dashboards, configuration screens to on-boarding flows.

    What you will bring:

    • Minimum 4+ years of relevant experience, working as a designer on digital products, either web or mobile applications with a portfolio featuring examples of your work with real products.

    • Deep understanding of user research, to help formulate and validate product strategies through qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

    • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end product design, from research to scoping, to UX to detailed UI design.

    • Solid understanding of interaction design and relevant tooling (e.g. Figma, Sketch) and prototyping tools (e.g. Invision).

    • Experienced working in strategic product settings, exploring scope through design thinking, creating alignment between stakeholders and helping define the path to execution with a critical eye to the user experience.

    • Comfortable iterating quickly and communicating ideas with various stakeholders with just the right fidelity for discussion.

    • Excellent communication skills, and close collaboration with technical stakeholders (engineering, product) and external (user) audiences.

    Responsibilities:

    As a Senior Product designer, you will work together with designers, researchers and strategists on solving design challenges by creating high fidelity designs and prototypes of features or new products and carry them through sign-off with stake holders as well as QA with engineering.

    Required Skills:

    • Track record of creating meaningful digital experiences for top brands, in-house or agency, ideally with an eCommerce focus.

    • Understanding of platforms and devices and how they relate to design, a good understanding of front-end coding standards and limitations, coding knowledge a plus.

    • Experience working with Design Systems and modern UI design tools (Sketch/Libraries, Abstract, InVision, Zeplin etc.).

  • Alright, here's the deal. We're looking to hire someone to primarily do two things: (1) Design totally badass stuff and (2) help to build it. 

    Often, the aforementioned badass stuff will be in the form of WordPress-based websites. So, it's critical that you're familiar with WordPress and feel pretty comfortable bending it to your will. Experience using popular page builders, like Beaver Builder, Visual Composer and Divi, is a big plus. Beaver Builder especially.

    You don't need to be a hardcore developer to do this job (we've got some of those on staff, we intravenously pump them full of caffeine and try to avoid making direct eye contact). However, for you, a working knowledge of HTML and CSS will be fairly important.

    Right about now feels like a good time to make a list.

    In this job, you will:

    • Design websites, layouts, app interfaces and more. They will look terrific.

    • Help to build/code/assemble these things.

    • Use WordPress, a lot.

    • Collaborate closely with your team members, including other designers, developers and project managers.

    And you’ll need:

    • Killer design skills.

    • A fundamental understanding of UX/UI principles

    • Strong ability with Adobe software, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Also, we use Figma a lot.

    • Functional knowledge of HTML and CSS.

    • Experience with WordPress page builders, particularly Beaver Builder.

    • An enchanted fedora that allows the wearer to see into the future.
