Giant Army is looking for a graphics developer to join our team and help improve Universe Sandbox. You will be working closely with our team’s senior graphics developer to help develop, improve, and maintain assets and visual effects. As your skills and experience with the position grow, you will begin to research and develop entire visual subsystems of Universe Sandbox.


This is a full-time, remote position.

Your Role

Maintain focus on interactive, realistic, and scientifically-accurate visual representations

Work independently with guidance from our senior graphics developer, team scientists, and director

Maintain source assets by integrating new data, such as updated elevation maps

Prepare assets for use in the engine, such as importing and error checking models and textures, and creating and assigning materials

Procedurally or manually generate textures for shader effects and surfaces

Develop and maintain code used to connect visual and simulation systems

Qualifications

(Strong C# & Unity Engine experience) || (Experience with an entity component model & object-oriented programming)

Strong understanding of graphics pipelines, rendering techniques, and graphics-related math

Experience writing and optimizing shaders (HLSL, GLSL, Cg)

Appreciation for, and focus on, realism and detail

Familiar with version control (we use GitHub), task-management systems (we use GitHub+ZenHub), code reviews, and so forth

Self-driven; comfortable working collaboratively and remotely

Passion for science, astronomy, and real-time interactive simulations

Love of fantastical what-if scenarios: what-if.xkcd.com (note citation #6 on 148)

    • Design and deliver training content for the customer services team and our customers that provides an engaging experience while growing both the breadth and depth of product knowledge and customer support processes.

    • Write learning objectives by working with subject matter experts to determine what is to be learned. Create the layout of the instructional material while determining the scope of educational projects and conducting research as needed.

    • Write and structure content and activities for optimized how people learn, ensuring the content matches established objectives as well as reshaping content for changing needs.

    • Provide creative and innovative treatments to exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.

    • Develop and test audio, visual, and interactive media aids as well as study guides and training manuals.

    • Analyze and apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design.

    • Devise modes of assessment, such as tests or quizzes, to measure the effectiveness of the course, analyze results and apply changes to content as needed to improve assessment scores.


    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree in instructional design or educational design

    • 2-3 years of professional experience in a similar role

    • Experience working within a SaaS industry

    • Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS)

    • In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models

    • Lesson and curriculum planning skills

    • Basic design skills with associated technologies

    • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio, and video scripts

    • Comfortable leading presentations and proven ability to coach others

    • High energy, enthusiastic, and growth-mindset communication style

    • Ability to function independently as well as part of a team

    • Ability to travel occasionally as required

    What can you do with us?

    We’re looking for a UX Designer to work on enterprise and developer experiences across a range of projects, you will work with an amazing collaborative team and have an opportunity to advocate what is best for our users throughout the organisation.

    Responsibilities:

    • Collaborating with other designers, developers and stakeholders to design enterprise and developer experiences for our core functionality and exciting new projects

    • Follow a user-centric, design thinking approach to solve real problems for users

    • Understand and organise the complex workflows of platform and API management into simple user journeys that inspire developers to keep building

    • Participate in user research for both concept and usability testing, and use the insights to define and maintain personas and user needs

    • Develop user journeys, workflows, storyboards, wireframes and interactive prototypes and anything else that helps you convey designs and concepts

    • Communicate designs with confidence internally and externally, and gather feedback to help take designs to the next level

    • Stay on top of what our users are doing, thinking and saying by collaborating with our customers and customer-facing teams, and be an advocate for them in all that you do

    • Be a key member of the UX team by contributing to the design system and participating in regular design reviews

    • Day to day, expect to attend project standups, plan and run ad-hoc UX workshops and collaborative sessions, create user journeys and flows of varying fidelity

    • Support the engineering teams throughout the planning and build phases of projects

    Essential skills and experience:

    • Experience designing for technical developer and enterprise (B2B) tooling

    • Experience working with and driving a design thinking framework

    • Experience working with projects from conception through to delivery

    • Experience communicating and presenting designs internally and externally

    • Ability to use standard set of design software (Sketch, XD, Invision, Miro etc.)

  • We are looking for a part-time graphic artist to help create materials for use in app, on the web, and for marketing. You’ll have the time of your life playing with our exotic and extensive palette of orange, grey, and white. You’ll be creating fun cartoons of our app and how to use it which will be shown to users when they first launch the app. You will create a pretty brochure-type-thing illustrating how the app works (and doesn’t work) which will be distributed with our technology to potential B2B customers. You may also be designing mobile and web advertisement banners for various ad campaigns we run. If you’re really lucky, you’ll design some things for our website that we currently neglect. Maybe if it looked nicer, we would pay more attention to it. You could have the power to make that possible. This is a remote job as we are a distributed team of 6 so the majority of communication will be through email and video chat.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrable design skills with a portfolio of prior work

    • Excellent communication skills

    • Ability to meet deadlines

    • You appreciate when an app has a good onboarding guide

    • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

    • Passion for startups, travel, and mobile technology

    • Storytelling skills (you have to tell the story of how Waygo works through illustrations)
