Director of Analytics
Job type: Full-time
Hiring from: USA Only
LawnStarter is the nation's leading on-demand platform for lawn care, providing over 120 US markets with an easy, Uber-like lawn care experience. We've recently raised a substantial round of growth equity to become the digital one-stop-shop for all outdoor home services.
LawnStarter is looking for an incredibly talented Director of Analytics who can help surface powerful insights from the data rich LawnStarter platform.
This will be the first senior analytics hire, and will be responsible for building out the analytics function from the ground up. Fundamentally, that means 3 things.
- Proactively digging for insights that drive the bottom line
- Supporting other teams' data needs, educating them and building them tools to better do their jobs
- Creating the backbone infrastructure, processes, and data governance systems that allow us to scale
If you have a passion for data driven decision making, read on.
What makes this role so awesome?
1 - The chance to make a big impact
We've grown pretty rapidly over the last 7 years, and collected a ton of data along the way. There are tons of gems just waiting to be discovered in the data. You'll have the chance to (and be expected to) proactively find insights in the data that help the bottom line.
2 - Building something from scratch (but with a solid foundation)
As the first senior analytics hire, you'll have the chance to build out the central analytics function from scratch. This involves creating the backbone that will set us up to scale.
However, because we've valued data-driven decision making from day 1, we've gone to great lengths to ensure all our data is being collected and stored properly. Every data point is in a redshift warehouse, and our schema is beautifully designed and named if we do say so ourselves.
3 - The support of a truly data-driven company
Most companies want to claim they're data driven, but we actually are. So much so that we made 'Be Data Driven' one of our core values.
Every decision we make is driven by what the data says, and you'll have the support of an executive team that understands and values how leveraging data properly can be a competitive advantage.
You live and breathe data analysis: You've been in analytics-oriented roles for at least 5 years, and you live and breathe data analysis.
Top-notch SQL proficiency: This probably goes without saying, but you should be able to write SQL in your sleep.
Experience with scripting languages: Whether it's Python, R or SAS, you're comfortable using scripting languages to gain insights from data.
Strong Problem Solving Skills and Business Intuition: Being able to wrangle data is only half the game; turning it into business insights and recommendations is just as important. You're able to start with a large pile of data and extract valuable insights from it.
Strong Communication Skills: Whether it's getting in the weeds speccing out an ETL with engineers, or putting together a high-level business case for the executive team, you understand your audience and can communicate clearly and concisely.
You're willing to be a player / coach: This role will involve managing at least 1 analyst to start, and that may grow to 2-3 over the years. But you'll be expected to be getting your hands dirty just as much as managing. If you're looking to build a headcount empire, this probably ain't the role for you.
We offer great pay, employee equity, and competitive health / vision / dental plans. And as a 100% remote company, you get all the benefits of not having to come into an office.
But the real benefit of this role is you'll be playing a big part in LawnStarter's growth and in accomplishing our mission.
