This position is remote based. 

Managers in the security engineering department at GitLab see the team as their product. While they are technically credible and know the details of what security engineers work on, their time is spent hiring a world-class team and putting them in the best position to succeed. They own the delivery of security commitments and are always looking to improve productivity. They must also coordinate across departments to accomplish collaborative goals.

The Field Security team is the public representation of GitLab's internal Security Team and function. They are responsible for evangelizing GitLab's Security practices both internally and externally, as well as providing expert guidance to internal and external customers about the best practices to secure GitLab assets. As the leader of the Field Security Team at GitLab, you will be  leading a team that is working towards raising the bar on security. The team will achieve that by working and collaborating with cross-functional teams and global customers to provide guidance on security best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Build a strong, collaborative partnership with sales and product teams
  • Participate on customer calls providing assurance on GitLab security
  • Create innovative and effective strategies for addressing customer requests
  • Assess and promote customer security requests across the GitLab security and product teams
  • Hire a world class team of security analysts to work on their team
  • Help security analysts grow their skills and experience
  • Provide input on security architecture, issues and features
  • Hold regular 1:1's with all members their team
  • Create a sense of psychological safety on your team
  • Recommend security-related technical and process improvements
  • Author project plans for security initiatives
  • Draft quarterly OKRs
  • Train analysts to screen candidates and conduct managerial interviews
Requirements
  • 2+ years experience leading teams
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially experience with executive-level communications
  • Ability to make concrete progress in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge

    The management and administration of Frontastic sees itself as an internal service provider. We try to bring a very high benefits with as little effort as possible.     We're looking for new members of the team, which is currently formed of one of the founders and one employee.     HOW WE WORK

    We're a 100% remote-native company. We make intensive use of tools like Slack or video conferencing. We try to find a good balance between focused work and communication or in other words between asynchronous and personal communication.

    We don’t have fixed expectations regarding working hours and it's normal for us to be able to take care of private matters during the day - e.g. visits to the doctor or picking up children from school.

    We meet four times a year in person: one five-day retreat and three two-day retrospective focused meetings.

    COMPENSATION

    For this particular job we are offering to pay between 40.000 to 70.000 € based on experience and skills. Optionally you can get Virtual Shares from our Virtual Shares Options Program AVSOPB as part of your compensation. In addition, we offer 28 vacation days and a €200/month co-working stipend.

    Since we currently work from 9 different countries (and counting), it's very difficult to offer consistent benefits beyond that. We strive to find a good balance between local laws and conventions, and general fairness. And we're always open to your suggestions (especially since it'll be part of your job).

    Who we are 

    Choco is one of the fastest-growing European startups. The company was founded in March 2018 by entrepreneurs who helped start companies such as Zalando (IPO), Lazada (sold to Alibaba) and Foodora (IPO). 

    We are a B2B platform connecting food suppliers and buyers on a global scale. While our technology is reshaping one of the oldest and most valuable industries on the planet - the food supply chain, we are obsessed with our mission to eradicate global food waste. 

    To do this, we have raised one of the largest Series A funding rounds in European history. We are looking for outstandingly driven individuals, who are able to assume extreme ownership and responsibility in shaping our global expansion. 

    What you will do

    We are looking for a Chief of Staff that will work directly with our CEO on all strategic and tactical matters driving the company forward. This role requires an exceptional leader - one who knows how to lead from principle and respect-based influence rather than authority - and who brings a great deal of wisdom, judgment and the ability to grasp complex organizational concepts. 

    Ultimately, the role exists to achieve leverage for the CEO by creating and leading thoughtful, lightweight, highly-efficient discussions and processes across a broad spectrum of situations (e.g. planning, technical development, employees, and stakeholder management), driving needed actions through the team and communicating efficiently to align people and teams. 

    In this highly visible role, it is equally important that this person is a strong individual contributor as much as a team player. The Chief of Staff must be able to work collaboratively with cross functional departments to guide project execution, remove obstacles, push to completion, and ensure initiatives meet committed timelines. This is a strategic role that requires a combination of character, judgment and people skills.

    Beyond deep understanding of how the company works, most importantly the Chief of Staff must possess a deep understanding of how Choco operates as a member and extension of the leadership team.

    This includes:

    • Carry the Choco culture as an extension of the CEO.

    • Drive operational and planning processes to completion in partnership with the whole leadership team.

    • Own ad-hoc projects small to large: this could include implementation of new tactical initiatives, research and providing intelligence, expansion explorations, strategic partnerships, and more.

    • Review and potentially prepare internal and external communications: reports, speeches or presentations.

    • Monitor information flow, act as a gatekeeper, ensure the CEO’s involvement in a project or decision-making process at the right moment.

    • Manage team meetings, including planning, agenda, notes and execution of action items. Distill discussions and thoughts into strategic plans. Facilitate preparation for internal and external meetings.

    • Develop and execute impactful long term strategy for the company

    • Be involved in all top-level decisions, act as a sounding board to the CEO and Exec leadership for new ideas and initiatives, and prioritize and lead projects.

    What You'll Need

    • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work seamlessly with a variety of personalities and functional disciplines. Ability to build relationships with cross-functional colleagues.

    • Exceptional and demonstrated business and product judgment. In spite of this role being administrative in nature, the CoS needs to have strong independent product and business judgment, i.e. be "right a lot" when it comes to making calls in these domains.

    • Strong operator. We need a leader who is great at creating structure, organization and (lightweight) process and getting everyone aligned within them. Strong prioritization skills and discipline are critical.

    • Has a 6th sense for identifying important strategic priorities to direct CEO focus on

    • Exhibits optimistic leadership and resilience. The CoS must look around at the sea of execution challenges and see them as a great puzzle to be solved. We should never hear this person complain or commiserate or talk about how everything is "broken;" rather, he/she must seek out problems and solve them, continually striving to make Choco better, stronger, faster. He/she must also be naturally enthusiastic to the point that they infect others, which ups everyone's game. Must have a bias for action and accountability.

    • Customer Obsessed. This person must be motivated by doing the right thing for our customers, externally and internally. She/he must establish and operate from first principles rather than being an order taker. He/she will not only "take the hills," with respect to the inner workings of Choco, but also identify the hills to take, i.e. be proactive in identifying opportunities to improve the way we work, prioritize appropriately and jump in without prodding.

    • An extremely organized critical thinker - your project plans are always detailed, up to date, and digestible, and you're comfortable setting and holding people accountable to deadlines.

    • Clear Communicator. You are a clear and concise communicator with the ability to synthesize a lot of information quickly and highlight the key insights.

    • High comfort in working under pressured, time-sensitive, and rapidly evolving situations.

    • A passion to radically transition food systems to operate sustainably. Obsessed about building a global champion. 

    • Academically, given that we wish to graduate Chiefs of Staff into managerial roles, we apply the same criteria: candidates should have an undergraduate degree in business, or similar from a top institution. Advanced degrees, like an MBA, are not required, but can make a candidate more interesting. 3-5 years experience at a top-tier organisation in a highly challenging role are ideal.
