The director of data and analytics is an organizational leader with a passion for data and analysis who has a clear vision for how data can transform company strategy. The role requires hands on leadership necessary to grow a team through the start up phase into a mature organization. The director of data and analytics is responsible for scaling the data function in an environment based primarily on cloud based SaaS systems. The director must consider global operations and be able to manage a remote, geographically dispersed team. The director ensures that the organization always approaches work with the goal of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the scope and effectiveness of the data and analysis function at GitLab.

  • Ensure the Company’s cloud and on-premise data is centralized into a single data lake and modeled to support data analysis requirements from all functional groups of the Company.

  • Create a common data framework so that all company data can be analyzed in a unified manner.

  • Work with the product, operations, and executive management teams to create a data enabled user journey.

  • Create and execute a plan to develop and mature our ability to measure and optimize usage growth, mapped to our user journey.

  • Ensure that all transactional systems can communicate with the data warehouse and that production data adheres to a unified data model.

  • Develop a roadmap for the data and analytics function that clearly defines ownership and responsibility between the central data function and the functional groups.

  • Collaborate with all functions of the company to ensure data needs are addressed and the required data is modeled and available to analysts and end-users.

  • Build a multi-modal service model that meets the non-homogeneous needs of our functional groups -- Full-service to Self-Service, and across our data stack.

  • Work with product, operations and executive management to guide maintain a holistic vision of the future of data at GitLab, and help leadership plan for any changes in our data strategy or needs. An example is in-product analytics.

  • This position reports directly to the CFO and works closely with the executive team to develop an organization plan that addresses company wide analytic resources in either a direct report or matrix model.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate work or equivalent experience (Masters or PhD) in a quantitative field such as math, physics, computer science, statistics etc.

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in a senior leadership position managing an analytics team.

  • Experience with a high growth company using on-premise tools and on-demand (SaaS) transactional systems.

  • Hands on experience with Python, SQL and relational databases. Experience with Snowflake is a plus.

  • Have previously lead a corporate data platform project.

  • Experience with open source data & analytics tools.

  • Experience working with multiple executive level business stake holders.

  • Must have experience with analytic and data visualization tools such as Periscope.

  • Share and work in accordance with our values.

  • Must be able to work in alignment with Americas timezones.

    About the Role

    As a Data Analyst, you will turn data into information, information into insight and insight into business decisions. You’ll develop analysis and reporting capabilities as well as monitor performance and quality control plans to identify improvements. Your primary responsibility will be to work with stakeholders across business functions including product, growth, marketing, and operations to build analytics products that enable data-driven decision making. You will guide analytics projects from discovery to solution and help us raise the bar for how we should apply our data to business decisions. In this role, you will be expected to: 

    • Complete analysis projects with business stakeholders to monitor the health of the business and help the business make data-driven strategic, product, and operational decisions

    • Develop and own business intelligence dashboards, visualizations, and reports to provide ongoing tracking and insights to the team

    • Build and improve advanced analytical models for product and business use cases

    • Collaborate with data engineer to improve data architecture and maintain a robust and accurate data warehouse

    • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems

    • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets

    • Discover ways to use analytics to support team members across the business to yield action through data-driven decision making

    Qualifications

    • 2-4 years experience managing data analysis projects. eCommerce or SaaS experience is a plus.

    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Excel at composing concise efficient SQL queries, writing reports and presenting findings with data visualization tools.

    • Experience using a cloud data warehouse environment (such as BigQuery)

    • Experience with Python and pandas is a plus.

    • Working knowledge of business statistics and probability.

    • Ability to build trust and communicate insights effectively with a variety of business stakeholders across analytical levels.

    • Desire to be a partner to business stakeholders with a shared goal of using analytics and insights to drive the business forward.

    About the Role

    As a Product Manager, you will work closely with our technology, design, and marketing teams to ensure that we continue to build our learning platform with our users in mind.  You will help guide day-to-day and strategic projects leveraging key product metrics for the business to make just-in-time decisions and guide the evolution of the platform.  You will work closely with our growth teams to incorporate user and customer experiences into the product direction, aiming to create an experience that will ensure that medical students will tell their friends about how Osmosis is the best way to prepare for exams and succeed. Our active marketing team will seek your help with translating campaigns to the product and engineering teams. 

    Key Responsibilities 

    The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to: 

    • Develop and implement product strategies consistent with company vision

    • Coordinate cross-functional teams to create product plans and roadmaps and communicate delivery for the product

    • Collect and analyze feedback from customers, stakeholders and other teams to shape requirements, features and end products. This may include both qualitative and quantitative research around feature utilization, user engagement, and customer satisfaction.

    • Write user stories, and review deliverables from feature development teams to ensure products and releases are launched correctly and on schedule

    • Collecting, monitoring, and reporting on key product metrics to support company revenue growth goals and tracking

    • This position is full time and remote. Must be authorized to work in the US

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree, ideally in computer science, engineering, instructional design, human computer interaction, or a related field

    • 5+ years experience as a product manager or a similar role working with the planning, design, and development of consumer-targeted online products

    • Demonstrable experience working with user experience teams and guiding efforts in visual design, and user experience to contribute new ideas to a roadmap

    • Demonstrable experience working in an Agile or lean product development environment. You are flexible and versatile with projects, goals, and strategies. You move quickly with change and stay open-minded

    • Demonstrable experience using analytics platforms/tools (Tableau, Google Data Studio, MixPanel, Google Analytics, Piwiq, etc.) to inform product decisions that you owned

    • Entrepreneurial. You are a proven executor and work with urgency to produce excellent results with limited time and resources

    • Studious. A keen interest in and deep understanding of web and mobile technology, particularly pertaining to an understanding of designing for learning  experiences.
