With millions of users and billions of image views each month there is a lot of data that needs to be organized and analyzed. Your Profile

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience

  • Expert-level SQL knowledge

  • Understanding of SQL best practices and conventions

  • Experience with BigQuery, Ruby on Rails, Elasticsearch, MySQL and Redis is a plus but not required

  • Fluent English

Your Tasks

  • Work with other engineers on data-heavy features like statistics for photographers, our search algorithm or photo recommendations

  • Make sure important data is tracked and stored in BigQuery

  • Help to run and analyze experiments on Pexels to improve the experience of our users

  • Create dashboards to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns and to track our KPIs

  • Work closely with all teams at Pexels to help them better understand our users

    We're looking to hire our first data analyst to lay the foundation for all aspects of Mixmax’s data-driven problem solving and decision making. You’ll be a key communicator, working both cross-functionally in our San Francisco office and across our distributed organization.

    As our first data analyst, you’ll:

    • Partner throughout the organization to empower each function to make data-driven decisions. 
    • Work closely with Data Engineering to ensure that our schema is streamlined for actionable analysis.
    • Extract actionable insights through analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional customer behavior datasets
    • Translate complex concepts into implications for the business via superb communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Understand what matters most and prioritize vigilantly
    • Sample projects include:
      • Product - What is our most viral feature?
      • Sales - Who is the ideal customer for each of our sales channels?
      • Marketing - What is the value of a free user?
      • Support - How does Support interactions affect lifetime value?
      • CSM - When is a customer a churn risk? When is there an expansion opportunity?

    Requirements and skills you possess:

    • 4+ years of work experience in analytics/data science or a directly related field - some of which should be in a technology environment 
    • A proven track record of initiating and delivering actionable analyses/recommendations in order to drive business impact 
    • An understanding of SaaS business models and key metrics 
    • Some experience building data science models to provide deeper insights 
    • Excellent communication skills (technical and non-technical) and comfort working with high-level stakeholders 
    • Ability to work autonomously in a dynamic environment 
    • Excellent SQL skills, fluency with BI/visualization tools, and deep knowledge of Excel, R, Python, or other analysis tools 
    • Strong critical reasoning skills, including an understanding of common pitfalls of data analysis

    We’re now looking for a full-time, Data Journalist to help drive insights out of a wealth of data points relating to developer activity. You’ll be working based in Europe or MEA, working from home or a co-working space to support our distributed team.

    Who we’re looking for

    As a Data Journalist, you will have 3-5 years working experience in number crunching, data analysis, predictive modelling, data visualisation, and data journalism. You will be fearless in data mining and keen to unearth meaningful patterns, actionable insights and intriguing stories from the data.

    You will have undertaken many data analysis projects where your novel insights and attention to detail would impress. You will have a proven record of communicating your findings to a non-technical audience, eloquently narrating the story behind the numbers. You might not have worked in the software industry before, but you have a passion for software, and wanting to figure out what makes the software economy tick - based on data.

    As a Data Journalist you’ll be:

    • Based in EMEA region (UK time ±4hrs)
    • Data processing and modelling in SQL, R, Python, Excel and visualisation software. You‘ll be working on several data projects, extracting insights in the context of behavioural analysis, population forecasting, segmentation and profiling.
    • Writing up your findings in short and long reports including visually appealing graphs and deep insights based on your analysis.
    • Tracking the latest trends on software developers and data scientists.
    • Helping shape our research agenda and asking developers and data scientists the right questions.
    • Interact with clients to provide insightful answers to tough data problems, and to support them in custom data insights projects.
    • Supporting the rest of the analyst team in their data quests as needed.

    What skills we are looking for

    • A data scientist who is also into data journalism, with a background in statistics, applied mathematics or computer science.
    • An ability to tell signal from noise in the data, and answer the ‘so what?’ question behind the observed patterns.
    • An ability to author data stories, comprehensively and in an unbiased way.
    • Excellent writing skills (English), with the ability to communicate complex insights to non-technical audiences.
    • Advanced Excel skills, and at least basic Python programming skills including Pandas.
    • At least a basic grasp of clustering and classification methodologies and models.
    • Ability to visualise data effectively, producing eye-catching and easy-to-understand graphs.
    • Very good presentation skills.
    • Comfortable working as part of a distributed team across four continents.

    • Having software development experience as a hobby or past work.

    Key success metrics

    You will be successful in the role if in the first 6 months you have:

    • Actively contributed in shaping the research agenda and questionnaire of the upcoming Developer Economics survey.
    • Authored at least two research reports, carrying out all data analysis and background research as needed.
    • Authored at least one blog post based on our survey data, showcasing our research and/or promoting our surveys.
    • Delivered at least one client briefing or webinar to our high standards.
    • Actively supported the rest of the analysts team, by reviewing other authors’ reports,
    • Supported our developer outreach and sales teams, promptly responding to any requests relevant to your work.

    We're building a marketplace and soon a new tool for authors to grow their audience. We already have over 200,000 users and we're now looking to reach millions :). As a result, we're going to need help with designing a custom data analysis tool to:

    • Optimize liquidity (offer/demand) on our marketplace;

    • Improve funnel conversion tracking through our entire ecosystem;

    • Determine conversion costs for freelancers, authors and readers;

    • Provide KPIs to marketing team to optimize acquisition efforts and drive growth.


    You have strong enough development skills that you are not reliant on our developers to set things up for you. You have experience with:

    • Elasticsearch

    • Using query language (SQL and variations)

    • Data Mining (web crawling, open data, parsing)

    • Big Data (Hadoop/Spark, Talend, Amazon/Google Cloud)

    • Scripting and programming (Python, R, Ruby)

    • Machine Learning, ideally with some knowledge about Deep Learning

    • Perfectly fluent in English, great communication skills

    • Experience working remotely

    Bonus points:

    • Experience creating robust and elegant dashboards to present data;

    • A good dose of ambition, as well as a great sense of humour.
