      Description

      • Collaborate with Product Owners, Engineers and stakeholders on product discovery and improvements of our existing systems
      • Design and implement effective data storage solutions and models
      • Articulate the flow of data across our diverse range of systems
      • Ensure reusable clear service design and  documentation
      • Defining and aligning the forms and sources of data to facilitate WMF initiatives
      • Ensure monitoring system performance and identify, define and implement internal process improvements and SLOs
      • Work with Site Reliability and Operations Engineers to analyse and determine service discoverability, capacity plans and high availability
      • Recommend solutions to improve new and existing data storage and delivery systems
      • Change the world for more than half a billion people every month ;) 

      Skills and Experience

      • 3+ years experience in a Data Architect role as part of a team
      • You have a track record of leading data architecture initiatives to completion
      • You have experience analysing, reasoning about, optimising and implementing complex data systems
      • You have expertise in data handling approaches and technologies with good understanding of system development lifecycles and modern data architectures(Data Lakes, Data Warehouse)
      • You are comfortable modeling complex systems using approaches such as Domain Driven Design, eventual consistency, stream processing
      • You have experience with a diverse set of data storage and persistence frameworks and have a strong understanding of core data modelling concepts:
        • Relational & distributed databases (e.g. MySQL, Cassandra, Neo4j, Riak, HBase, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch)
        • Consistency trade-offs and transactional algorithms in distributed systems
        • Principles of fault tolerance and robustness
      • Use the best available tools & languages for each task. Currently we work a lot with Node.js but also use other tools and languages like Go, Python, Java, C, C++ and PHP where it makes sense. 
      • You have experience working with data streaming and pipelining systems(Hadoop, Kafka, Druid)
      • You have experience working with an engineering team, and communicate effectively with other stakeholders.
      • You have a track record of combining a solid long-term architectural strategy with short-term progress.
      • With freedom comes responsibility. You direct your own work and are pro-active in asking for input.
      • You have a scientific mindset and empirically test your hypotheses.
      • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

      As a well rounded systems reliability engineer with a diverse set of skills, this makes you one of the very best people to troubleshoot, monitor the platform, and be on top of releases. You should definitely be the type that appreciates diversity in your day, and challenges outside of your comfort level! A typical day might include these types of activities:

      - Taking charge of the build process and pipelines across the platform.
      - Being keenly aware of systems architecture and automatically adding in redundancy and backup for new systems and software.
      - Assist in troubleshooting a complex customer issues across network devices, server hardware, virtual machines, in-house software and open source software. Not only can you run tcpdump with filters on the command line, but you can read it there also.
      - Adding additional monitoring and alerting on all systems across the platform that will help you identify one of those annoying intermittent issues you have seen in the logs.


      Skills & Requirements
      The right candidates will probably have a CS degree, solid scripting and automation skills, great troubleshooting skills across the OS and network, a good grasp on security concepts, experience with routing platforms and protocols, and enjoy working collaboratively.

      How do we build our products?

      We process millions of events every day and are building our analytics platform on Kinesis Firehose / S3 / EMR, with Python/Spark and PostgreSQL to provide an easy-to-use platform for querying and graphing events to everyone in the company and outside.

      Most of our front-end applications rely on Angular 2+/Material/Redux. We love Angular but sometimes we need lightweight applications that can be embedded on thousands of websites so we also use Preact/Redux Zero for that.

      We also build mobile SDKs for Android and iOS for our clients to embed in their apps.

      Our back-end applications use Feathers JS, an amazing service-oriented Node.js framework for building REST and GraphQL APIs. We try to keep our services small and lean and use AWS Lambda/Serverless for background jobs. We leverage PostgreSQL and DynamoDB as our main databases.

      We rely on a lot of AWS/GCP services (Beanstalk, Lambda, CloudWatch, S3, etc.) for building, deploying, serving, monitoring and scaling our services. We use Gitlab for our code and issues and our CI.

      We are looking for experienced DevOps specialists, to help improve and scale our infrastructure. We are looking to refactor some of its components, including moving to Terraform and Packer, as well as supporting additional platforms such as AWS.

      The Open edX platform itself is a large Python/Django codebase, with good code standards and architecture. You would also work on different clients contracts using the platform, which can include both DevOps operations and fullstack Python/Django/JS development. The clients list/references include Harvard, MIT, edX themselves, the French government, and various startups & universities currently running their own instances, or looking to create one. 

      Most of your work is published as free software (Open edX is released under the AGPL license, which requires clients to release modifications under the same license), and you would also contribute to the free software project, pushing most of your developments upstream through pull requests, contributing features, documentation or help on mailing-lists.

      Responsibilities

      - You will be responsible for creating and maintaining company KPI dashboards so everyone across the company can monitor our performance (we are transparent and data-driven), and team leads can make informed decisions. This means writing a LOT of SQL -- and making sure the data is accurate and reliable.

      - Then, you will explain those metrics to leadership and each team, making sure they understand the ins-and-outs of the data.       Internal Leadership Development
      • Collaborate with management on succession planning objectives
      • Develop career paths and structured evaluations for each position, facilitating discussions between leadership and teams
      • Partner with Managers and Director of Learning & Development to build leadership development training programs, including change management initiatives

      Human Resource and Compliance
      • Analyze the effectiveness of existing HR policies and procedures ( including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, and off-boarding of personnel) as well as retention incentives (including compensation, equity option plan, benefits, etc.) ensuring best practices and that they adhere to governing regulations while supporting Percona’s mission and goals
      • Lead, hire, evaluate and manage the team of HR professionals

      • Establish goals and budget for annual and 3 year plans for the HR department

      • Create and set performance metrics/expectations, while continuing to strengthen the process for evaluating performance

      • Champion positive employee relations strengthening Percona’s culture

      Your Experience
      • Proven experience as senior People Operations leader and mentor (or equivalent roles in Human Resources), including employment law and best practices, industry benchmarks for compensation and benefits
      • Built and implemented successful recruitment and retention programs at previous organizations
      • Passion for creating an environment where every staff member has the opportunity, support to thrive professionally and contribute to the overall success of our customers and Percona

    • Kalepa is looking for Data Scientists to lead efforts at the intersection of machine learning and big data engineering in order to solve some of the biggest problems in commercial insurance.

      What you need to have:

      • At least 5 years of experience in developing production-grade software using either Data Warehousing or Big Data frameworks in order to solve real-world problems.

      • Experience in developing with Scala at an idiomatic, expert level is required. Knowledge of advanced Java or C++ is a bonus. We would favour candidates with an exceptionally strong engineering background.

      • At least 6 years of hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.

      • Proven hands-on experience with Apache Hadoop, Kafka, Spark or Flink.

      • Exposure to designing streaming and batch data pipelines.

      • Applied knowledge in Machine Learning algorithms and their application to vast datasets is considered as a plus.

      • A strong sense of ownership in your work.
