At Task Analytics, good design is in our DNA and is a big part of everything we do. We’re looking for a new team member to contribute directly to design and development of our product’s user interface and experience.
As a small distributed team in both the eastern United States and Norway, we value the T-shaped employee that has the user design interface and experience experience, but familiar with other aspects of software development. While we each take lead in a particular area we all share responsibility for delivering a great experience to our customers.


As a part of our product development team, you’ll:
  • Lead the design and development of our product’s User Interface and User Experience
  • Maintain our standard React component library by building style guides and assets
  • Participate in user story definition and development
  • Help define and shape our overall brand and visual identity


The ideal candidate presents most of the following qualifications:
  • Strong visual design skills, specifically related to software products, preferably with Software-as-a-Service products
  • Experience with stylesheet languages like Sass or Less
  • Front-end development experience with JavaScript and single-page application frameworks, preferably React.
  • Experience with CSS-in-JS frameworks like Glamor, Glamorous, or Emotion
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player experienced with working as part of a distributed team
  • A user-centric mindset able to speak on behalf of our users

    What will you be doing?

    Collecting and analyzing tons of feedback from a variety of sources and identifying underlying user problems

    Pitching solutions to those user problems in close collaboration with designers and engineers

    Driving those solutions to production while keeping scope in check and validating progress with customers

    Partnering with marketing, sales, and support to implement anything needed (docs, blogs, presentations, etc) to ensure customers get value from features we ship

    Defining success metrics for features, reporting results after shipping, and proposing future iterations

    What does a Product Analyst at Human Made do?

    As a Product Analyst at Human Made you will be responsible for carrying out research and analysis for the HM products and services. This will include internal research, research on competitors, and research on new features and service offerings.

    You should be confident conducting research using varied methods, including competitor research, identifying suitable internal and external data sources, interviews, and data analysis. You should be proactive about finding new tools and methodologies for research, and sharing what you’ve learned with the rest of the company.

    You should be comfortable reading, analysing and manipulating data, and be able to communicate that data across the company so that it is easily understood. This includes writing detailed reports, keeping the product team and other teams regularly updated on calls, and other written updates to the company. You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with good attention to detail and an ability to pick up on discrepancies and errors.

    You will be expected to collaborate with different teams across the company, conducting research to identify ways that we can make improvements to our products and services for clients and engineers. This will include speaking to clients, engineers, project managers, and account managers, to identify pain points and then researching possible solutions to any problems. You should help to translate problems faced by engineers and clients into changes, working with the product and servers team, and clearly communicating the motives for those changes.

    You will be a key member of the Product Team working closely with your teammates to develop Human Made’s products and services. You should maintain good working relationships with people across the company. Human Made is a growing company and there will be opportunities for growth outside of your Product Analyst role, so you should be proactive in tackling new challenges that are of interest to you.

    What this role is about

    In this role, you’ll be involved in the experience and visual design of new product features across our web and mobile applications. You’ll be our first full-time designer, handling both UI and UX design and maintaining our visual brand across everything from our applications to our print materials. We have tens of thousands of active users and many subproblems in language learning to tackle.

    We have a diverse set of users, including learners who use Slang’s web and mobile apps to learn a language, managers who use the Slang management app to help their employees or students succeed, and internal Slang employees who use the Slang administrative app to build content and manage clients. Each of these applications has unique requirements around simplicity and data density, and each presents interesting design opportunities.

    As a company, we have a strong appreciation for aesthetics and the impact of visual design on user experience.

    Some interesting problems we’re tackling

    How can we design the learning experience to communicate the power of the advanced data-science deciding the particular sequence of activities a user sees while maintaining simplicity and intuitiveness?

    How can we communicate language-learning progress to our users? How can we aggregate and communicate the learning statistics of a company’s employees for display to their managers?

    How can we design the data-dense internal interfaces used for content development for maximum throughput?

    Skills and technologies

    Two or more years of experience in product design with a strong portfolio including mobile work and experience with any modern design tool (e.g. Sketch or Figma).

    Good aesthetic values, an appreciation for consistency, and an eye for detail.

    Excellent discipline and focus, especially in autonomous environments, and strong English communication skills. We’re a small team and we’re moving quick!

    A plus: interest or experience with illustration, animation, motion design, interaction design, print design, branding, or educational applications.
