We’re looking for a Product Designer to play a key role in every phase of product development.

This is a unique opportunity to be a high-impact, early member of the Aptible Team. Reporting directly to our VP of Design, you'll be responsible for designing and developing tools that help our clients improve their security posture.

    About Aptible

    Our Vision

We see a future where it’s easy to bring a great idea into the world using the internet, while respecting data security and privacy. The next generation of businesses will design security and privacy into their operating processes. If every business is going to be a software business, every business will need to be a security business.

We’re working to make information security a core competency of every startup. We envision a world in which startups have access to great information security, are empowered to focus on their businesses instead of on compliance, can scale faster and more efficiently, and are confident that they're creating quality products.

    Our Values

    Commitment to the Team

We're passionate about building a diverse team of talented people who accomplish great things together, regardless of where they are. We talk a lot about the science of high-performing teams and how to make Aptible the best environment to support that kind of team. If you love the mutual support and camaraderie of a strong team that wins together, we want to hear from you.

    Commitment to Each Other

We commit to each other as individuals, one on one. We measure our commitments carefully and hold each other accountable, which means we’re able to deliver more for our colleagues and customers in the long run. We set only a few very clear, ambitious goals as a company each quarter, and talk about them constantly to reinforce focus. We make time to recognize, praise, and reward those who consistently deliver on their promises.

    Commitment to The Mission

Startups are hard, and we expect challenges and missteps. We love winning, but most of all, we value getting back up and getting better at what we do. We are deeply motivated to build trust on the internet by empowering teams, and we respect grit and perseverance in furtherance of that mission.

    Growth Over Perfection

We fail often and early, and learn from it. We talk about improving constantly. We praise those who give feedback early and often. We put effort into being good at giving feedback: When we give feedback, we make each other feel big, not small. This helps create an environment where we can take reasonable risks, which in turn helps us make decisions quickly and learn fast. We expect managers to delegate a lot, and acknowledge that delegation means sometimes letting someone make what you think is the wrong decision.

    Teaching as Learning

We are a team of learners. We value and respect teaching as the best way to learn, and make time to share information openly. We set explicit goals around training, and devote resources to developing and improving our internal training. We praise those who share knowledge in public — by asking and answering questions in team chat, writing documentation, and writing for our customers.

    Taking Responsibility Over Giving Responsibility

Identifying problems is a good start, but we love solving them more. We think and talk a lot about how we can improve, and work hard at it. We value and reward those who take initiative. We don't like meetings where we only talk about problems.

    Asking Why

We ask “why?” a lot in order to understand root causes. Asking why helps us cultivate focus and make high-quality decisions quickly. We don't attribute mistakes to human error. We view them as a starting point for an inquiry, not the end.

    Your Impact

    • You'll play a leading role in shaping the vision and strategy of our products, and continuously materialize this into high-level UX concepts to pixel-perfect visual designs.

    • You'll partner with our Product Management, Engineering, and Data Protection Advisory Teams to establish alignment and inspire our team with an actionable product vision.

    • You'll partner with our Product Management Team to design and conduct Human-Centered Design activities with customers and prospects.

    • You'll help cultivate a strong design culture at Aptible.

    Your Strengths

    • Product Design Experience: You have 2+ Years of experience as a Product Designer driving meaningful change for a product. You can design to constraints and develop a deep understanding of organizational context (e.g. team, timelines, business and customer needs).

    • Product Design Portfolio: Your portfolio demonstrates your experience at each stage of the user-centered design process, as well as strong Interaction and Visual Design.

    Our Benefits

    • Work from Anywhere: Enjoy the flexibility of working from home, a local co-working space, or your favorite coffee shop.

    • Open Vacation Policy: We encourage you to take the time you need, when you need it — for any holiday or matter of personal importance.

    • Paid Parental Leave: We offer job-protected Paid Time Off — 12 Weeks, Fully Paid — for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child.

    • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: We offer comprehensive health care for employees, with 100% of premiums paid by Aptible.

    • Hardware & Software: We help you create your ideal office setup and provide any software you’ll need.

    • Company Travel: We come together in-person at least two to three times per year, in locations around the globe.

Considering the rapid growth in remote and distributed work, this is a perfectly timed problem for Owl Labs to solve. The market is hungry for products and content that make remote and distributed work better.

With $22.3M funding from Spark Capital, Matrix Partners, and Playground Global, Owl Labs has created the Meeting Owl, a 360° smart video conferencing camera that sits in the center of the table and uses robotics algorithms to automatically highlight different people as they talk. After launching the product in June 2017, thousands of companies have purchased the Meeting Owl, saying it offers the most natural and inclusive meeting experience they've ever seen.

In this role, you will impact some of the company's most important product development goals.

We do product design, so your comprehension of what it takes to get digital products out the door is our first non-negotiable. Beyond that, you’ve established yourself as someone people look up to, and you don’t take that privilege lightly. You’ll still deal in pixels, but you’ll also play an integral role in a project’s success with clear direction, leadership, guidance, and encouragement. You believe that good ideas can come from anywhere, and you actively support your team in making sure everyone is heard.

    • Work with Producers and Client Partners to scope project requirements.

    • Help promote an inspiring and inclusive environment for the team.

    The Must-have Shortlist

    • 5+ years of product design experience at a digital product agency or consultancy, ideally in a lead role.

    • Addicted to staying ahead of desktop and mobile best practices, developments and trends in web, mobile and iOS design.

    • Communication pro, with the ability to deliver compelling design rationales in both client and internal contexts.

    • Comfortable with ambiguity and client briefs that lead to more questions than answers.

    • Motivated by feedback, and by the opportunity to improve in your role, in the work, and in how you work together as a team.

  • Help Scout

    Hello, there.

We’re Help Scout. A company you’ve maybe heard of before, or maybe not, but either way you’ve landed on this page because you were at least a little curious, and we like that about you. We spend our time making it easier for SMBs to talk with their customers. Today Help Scout is used by more than 9,000 businesses in 140 countries.

We’re looking for someone who’s really smart, and humble, and thorough, and meticulous, and self-motivated, and kind, and a little funny, and tenacious, and did I say self-motivated? Well, that’s because we’re a remote company! Being remote is fantastic, it’s empowering, and it’s perfect for people who like to be their own boss and push themselves to be at their very best every day.

That’s where you come in. As a Product Designer at Help Scout, you’ll spend your days creating tools that our customers use to deliver a great experience. Smiles on faces — if that’s your jam, we’d love to meet you.

    About the role:

You’ll be the seventh member of the Help Scout design team. We work remotely from places like New York, Sydney, Ireland and Nashville. You can work from wherever you please as long as you have 4+ hours of overlap with EDT (US East Coast).

We’ll ask you to own the entire design process. For a new project, you’ll be given a brief and will partner with Product to do User/Customer research. You’ll be building the wireframes, prototyping, visual+UI design, interaction design, and will partner with engineers to get the implementation juuuuuust right.

You’ll be embedded on a couple cross-functional teams with one product lead, one QA, and 2-5 engineers depending on the project. You’ll work hand-in-hand with your teammates to ship your best work to our customers.

Although each designer is embedded on different teams, it’s important that everyone makes each other better. Over Slack, video chats, and design docs, you’ll provide guidance and critical feedback on other work outside of your purview. You’ll also get that sort of support from your teammates on your projects.

You will have the freedom to pioneer your own discovery phase and find ways to improve our product. You’ll find that we’re passionate about putting in the work to constantly improve on the things we’ve made.

Since our team is small, we don’t operate under titles like “junior”, “senior”, or “principle." Instead, we make sure that everyone who makes it onto the team has developed their craft to a level where they can be trusted with autonomy, and to manage their own design process. (We have other ways of tracking milestones and success that we’ve found to be more productive and true to our culture.)

    About you:

Your passion is to work on large-scale software a lot of people use, but to be given ownership of the project from concept to completion. The design challenges are complex, and the work has a bunch of constraints. Despite the difficulty, this is the work you love most.

We all love a good pattern library and pixel-perfect design, but you prefer to get involved in a project way before then. For you, it starts with sketches, wireframes and a keen understanding of the problem from all angles.

You have experience managing projects and possibly people, but you ultimately thrive when you can contribute as an individual and you’re looking to do more of that again.

You’re very thorough and detail-oriented. You don’t get tired of solving a problem and iterating on the solution, even after a few months of working towards the best experience.

You’re humble, yet opinionated about what makes a great product experience. You leverage your skills and expertise to help others and make the people around you better at their craft.

You have more than a few years of design experience, and you’ve grown so much that you cringe when you look back at your early work.

You can simplify complex problems and clearly articulate your thought process to others in writing. This is especially important in a remote culture like ours.

You collaborate well and communicate early and often. You explain your work by extrapolating on everything from your inklings and curiosities, to the rationale behind final your decisions.

You actively seek critical feedback. As a matter of fact, you can’t get enough of it, because you know that your work only gets better when your team puts their eyes on it.

You have strong taste, and your eye for visual design is as strong as your ability to dream up exceptional customer experiences.

You prefer to collaborate directly with developers and product stakeholders, carefully considering the tension between business and customer needs.

When it comes to understanding a problem, you have no hesitation in setting up customer interviews, doing usability testing, or conducting a survey.

This isn’t an absolute requirement, but strong HTML and CSS skills will likely make you a more successful product designer at Help Scout. If you can write JavaScript, it’s all the better, but we won’t ask you to write production code.

    Who you'll work with

Linda Eliasen, Design Team Lead - You’ll be reporting to Linda. She’s been a designer like you, for companies like Mailchimp, Dropbox and Squarespace.

Design team - Sean, Jared (co-founder), Buzz, Bronwyn, Karolina, and Matt can't wait to meet you!

Competitive Salary - We pay at or above market salary in most cases and evaluate a lot of research to make sure everyone is paid well. The formula we use to calculate all salaries is public to employees and is improved upon regularly.

Health and dental insurance - We cover you and your family's health/dental insurance 100%. If you are based in the US, we'll cover you on our Aetna policy. If you're based outside the US, we'll reimburse your out-of-pocket health and dental insurance costs.

Long-term/Short-term Disability Insurance & Life Insurance - we cover 100% of the premiums for LT/ST Disability insurance and base Life Insurance. You also have the option to purchase supplementary life insurance through our provider (currently US only).

Flexible vacation - Take time off when you need it, we trust you.

Sabbatical - After you've been at Help Scout for 5 years, you get a month of paid vacation plus $2500 to spend towards travel, learning, projects or however you'd like to spend that time.

Instead, you’ll be surrounded by driven, supportive teammates who will push you to be better. We have read the studies and understand that diverse teams build better products, bring more perspective to the table, contribute to a company’s financial success and help foster a more inclusive environment for all employees, but the bottom line is that it's the right thing to do.

    Product Designer, Mobile

We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer to focus on our native apps serving the fast-growing number of users on mobile devices. You’ll collaborate with engineers and designers in our fully remote company to help our customers be more successful online and help make the web a better place.

The mobile design team is a small group of designers who craft user experiences in our mobile apps: WordPress, WooCommerce, and Simplenote. We are in need of another designer to help push that mission forward, elevate the user experience for our customers, and contribute positive energy to an effective mobile design team.

    What you’ll be doing:

Objective #1: Improve user success and engagement on the mobile WordPress apps, with a particular emphasis on the Android platform.

    • UX & UI Design: You’ll use your full range of research, mobile product design, interaction design, and visual design skills to move from early exploration and research to tweaking pixels before launch.
    • Mobile Experience: You have worked on both companion and stand-alone mobile apps. You’ll consider the full customer journey and touchpoints, for both mobile-only and cross-device WordPress users.
    • Research: You’ve coordinated and conducted user interviews and usability testing on mobile platforms. You’ll also partner with researchers, other designers, engineering, marketing, and business partners to define user problems and needs based on this research.
    • Communicate: You’ll effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, and design rationale in written form as well as verbally and visually to gain alignment and move the work forward.
    • Collaborate: You’ll work with developers to oversee and review the building process to ensure a polished experience for our users.
    • Iterate & Validate: You have a hypothesis-driven process and regularly look to validate your ideas. You will iterate on designs according to research, data analysis, and feedback, validating your work with data and real users.
    • Android: You’ll use your deep knowledge of Google’s Material Design Guidelines, and the role they play in native app design, to design consistent experiences for these platforms. You probably use an Android phone as your primary mobile device.

Objective #2: Contribute to the advancement of our design process and practices at Automattic, including the integration and adoption of a new design system (Muriel).

    • Grow Our Design Community: You’ve worked with medium to large design teams on mobile products at scale. You will collaborate with other members of the Automattic design org by giving feedback to continually improve each other’s work, and the design process itself.
    • Evolve Our Design Process: You’ll help improve our design system and process by actively connecting with other designers across the company.
    • Expand Our Mobile Understanding: You’ll advocate for the needs of our mobile app users and spread your knowledge of mobile with your colleagues in Automattic Design.

    Have you done this before?

Do you have extensive experience designing and improving end-to-end mobile experiences with a cross-functional team?

If you’d like this to be your next challenge, send us your resume, a portfolio (if you have one), and answers to the following:

    – Tell us why you’d be a good fit for the role.
    – What is the mobile product design accomplishment that you are most proud of?
    – Tell us about a time when something came up in research for a mobile project that changed your early thoughts on how to approach the design.

We are lucky to receive hundreds of applications for every position, so try to make your application stand out.

We’re serious about growing diversity in the tech industry. We want to build Automattic as an environment where people love their work and show respect and empathy to those with whom we interact. Salary and Payment

Exodus UI/UX Designers start between 45k - 85k+ USD based on experience. All salaries are paid in Bitcoin. Although we understand everyone will not fit everything in the categories below, and some designers may be more technical with code while others may be more UI-focused with design, these are some general salary guidelines for this position based on your background and expertise.

    45k :

You know your way around design tools like Sketch, Photoshop, Flinto, After Effects, Zeplin and Illustrator. You can take previously finished concepts and spin off iterations for marketing campaigns. You are excited to be surrounded by UI/UX experts from whom you can learn and soak up knowledge. You can’t wait to dive into finished Exodus design files to break them apart and understand how they work and the details of what makes them pixel-perfect. You know a limited amount of HTML and CSS and have not yet got into Javascript or coding in a deep sense.

    60k :

You take all the skills at the 45k range and improve on them to be able to create your own designs from scratch. Your design has years of experience but is not yet at the level of a senior level design leader. You know how to make pixel perfect designs and have an extensive portfolio of client work you have completed in the past. You are comfortable working in After Effects and have a desire to improve all aspects of animation and user experience. Although you have never led a team you have worked with a team and started to see leadership qualities in yourself and are beginning to help others. At this level you also have deeper knowledge about HTML/CSS and Javascript interactions. You are familiar with GitHub and working with a team remotely to share your concepts and interactions.

    85k+ :

You understand deep emotional aspects of UI and UX design and can lead peers to create an entire campaign from just words and end-goals given to you in a meeting. You will be able to go off and not only create entire user journeys but add value by understanding the core business value of what you are creating and how to generate additional features or product upgrades that add value to the customer. You know After Effects and have a deep understanding of animation and the emotional impact created by subtle animations. If you are more technical you have a deep understanding of HTML/CSS and Javascript and can work directly on GitHub to bring concepts in Sketch to life in responsive web design.

    How To Apply

Send us a link to your online portfolio or your Dribbble or Behance profile (if you code send links to finished websites) + a few words on why you think you are a good fit highlighting any of the above items to [email protected]

Why you think you’re unique and would be a good fit for this position.

One item you would like to improve about Exodus.

Tell us what you are passionate about and what you will not compromise on.
