[Interview] John O’Nolan, Founder at Ghost
Every week, we share the story of an inspiring Remote Worker and Remotive reader, here is John’s story:
1.- Can you please tell us a bit more about: Who are you, and what do you do? 🙂
I’m the founder of Ghost, which is an independent open source publishing platform. We’re a fully remote company spread all over the world.
2.- Why do you work remotely, and how does it feel?
For us it was a really natural path, we never really considered anything different. Having worked as a part of previous remote teams and open source projects, I’m extremely used to it. Our founding team was already distributed, so we just carried on hiring in the same way! It feels great 🙂
3.- What software do you use?
Slack is the most important one. Slack is our virtual office. It combines work chat, social chat, notifications, and a constant stream of information about what is happening inside the company.
Sqwiggle is another favorite we’ve been spending more time with recently. I actually did a big post on all the tools that allow us to function as a remote team here.
4.- What would be your dream setup?
I’m pretty satisfied with my setup!
I’m a minimalist at heart, so I rarely lust after things. The only things I really want are technological innovations which aren’t yet available.
One thing I’m most excited about for the next couple of years is the impact which Graphene is going to have on the battery industry. (Tl;dr: you’ll be able to charge your phone for 5 minutes and it’ll last a month)
