Get the flexibility you dreamt of by joining a remote startup!
I’m super excited to share this interview today!
Guillaume Leverdier joined the Remotive community in May 2017 and found a remote job in August 😱
He now works at Bonsai as a growth marketer 📈
When did you first realize you wanted to work remotely?
As my wife got an offer in a different country than where we were living, I realized that having a remote job would allow both of us to have the career that we want (her by moving where she needs to, and me by working from wherever in the world we could go).
Why did you join the Remotive Community?
I was looking for a community of remote workers from whom I could get pieces of advice and learn a bit more about that lifestyle. It also helped me make the jump from an office job to a remote one.
What was the biggest problem the Remotive Community solved for you?(List the three things you like most about the community)
- Job hunting
- Meet people while moving away from Canada
- Learn from the community
What do you see as the most valuable aspect of the Community?
- Pieces of knowledge in all kind of domains
What was your biggest roadblock in finding a remote job?
Not having much experience as a remote worker (I have had a few remote contracts before starting my full-time remote job).
How did you find your remote job?
I found the job posting on weworkremotly.com, sent an email to the poster and got an interview.
Did you face any big challenges? Tell us about them and how did you overcome them?
Not for now. I think the toughest part is to switch off at night from the “work from home” mode to the “at home” mode. As my office is in my apartment, it’s easy to work longer hours than you would in an office. It does not bother me at all as I love what I am doing, but for some people, it might be more complicated.
How did it feel to join this new company?
AMAZING! we are a team of 7 with people in Europe, Brazil and in the States. Being part of a startup is something special!
How has working remotely changed your business perspective? And/or your life?
It allows me to travel when and where I want. I am getting the flexibility that I dreamt of.
What’s next for you?
Helping the freelance & remote community get the tools they need & deserve! I will be doing so by working with Bonsai and sharing my knowledge. This new challenge is an exciting one.
Anything else you would like to share? 🙂
Thank you for the interview! Anyone looking for pieces of advice on the remote lifestyle should join Remotive. It’s one of the most active Slack community out there.
